Pretty in Pink

This quilt was made by Sherri and it has a story as sweet as its color palette.  Sherri made this quilt for her grandmother for Christmas.  Her grandmother always made quilts for members of the family, but no one had every made her a quilt until now.  She was very excited to be receiving this special gift.

Sherri selected the Wildflower panto and I think it was the perfect choice.

I used a pretty pink  So Fine Thread to stay with the theme.

Beautiful job Sherri, I'm sure your grandmother will treasure it.

String Quilt

This string quilt was made by friends Reneta and Amy.  Reneta and Amy both teach at the same elementary school and they are donating this quilt to the Parent Council so it can be raffled to raise funds for new playground equipment.  Teachers are awesome!

They both quickly agreed that the Fascination panto would complete their vision for the quilt.

I hope Barker School raises lots of money due to their efforts, because who wouldn't love to win this?

Wildfowers in January

I can't believe that January is almost over!  I have been busy quilting, but just not posting about it.  Time to change that!

This fun baby quilt was made by Donna.  She wanted it soft and pretty, so we used Quilters Dream Puff batting and the Wildflower panto.

This is the back of the quilt, and it helped us decide on a fun variegated pastel thread for the front.

Next up was Amy's "Katie's Quilt" -  a pattern from the Missouri Star Quilt Company. There is a tutorial here.

Amy also chose the Wildflower panto, and a soft green thread on the top.

I have a wonderful new view in my studio.  I found the perfect spot to hang my new painting!  I absolutely love it, especially because it was created just for me.

Back in the fall, my dear friend Kathy attended a "One Square Foot" Exhibit and Silent Auction at the Norva Centre in Flin Flon.  She showed me a painting of a view of Highway 10 that she was bidding on, and I teased her about how kind it was for her to be getting me a present ;).  Unfortunately she did not have the winning bid, but her very talented neighbor and artist offered to do one better and paint a picture for each of us.  The subject matter is Highway 10 - the road we travel to see each other which spawned the name of our company Highway 10 Designs. My painting is of a very special spot to my family on the highway heading north.  Below is the companion painting that hangs in Kathy's home - hers is a view heading south towards me.  I think they are perfect!

Happy New Year!

Now that the baking, wrapping, visiting, eating, volunteering and travelling are all done I am looking forward to getting back to more of a normal routine that will include more regular posting here!

I did manage to find a wee bit of time during the holidays to start back up on this project that I haven't posted about since May!   I have four rows complete, and now the blocks are ready for the last three rows.

2015 was a wonderful year for Night Owl Quilting & Dye Works.  I quilted 70 client quilts - a number that surprised me as I didn't realize I did that many while still working at my day job in the office of the local Funeral Home 2 days a week.

I am blessed to have a wide variety of quilts come into my studio.  I enjoy helping someone finish a  quilt that will be used and loved everyday, and over this past year I have grown to enjoy helping finish those extra special time consuming quilts that quilters spend countless hours on. Those kinds of quilts used to have me shaking in my boots, and I would spend a lot of time second guessing myself when trying to come up with a plan to tackle the hand applique, or large open areas. Although I still need to pause, and I am more confident in my ideas and abilities - I guess experience really is the best teacher.

Here are some of the highlights of the custom quilting from 2015.  (You can click on the title above each to go back to original post to see more photos.)

Thank you to all  my wonderful clients who trust me with their masterpieces!  I can't wait to see what will come through my studio doors in 2016!
