Lug Nuts Raffle Quilt

My good friend (and prolific client) Reneta and I joined forces to make this version of the the Highway 10 Designs Lug Nuts pattern.  We are donating the quilt to the senior band at our local high school (that both of our babies belong to) for a fundraising raffle.
Want a $2 ticket to win this beauty? - I can hook you up!

This quilt was truly a team effort.  Reneta provided the top fabric, and I the backing and batting.  I cut the strips, she sewed strips sets, I cut again, she made the  half hexagons, we laid it out together with the "help" of her cats and a glass of wine.  She finished the top, I quilted it.  I made and attached the bias binding, she hand stitched to the back.

We added the two spare hexagons to the back for a little fun.  It was quilted with the Fascination pantograph and a shiny charcoal grey Maginifico thread.

Lug Nuts is fun and easy to make - this was Reneta's third!  Check out #1 here and #2 here.  The pattern is available in the Highway 10 Designs Etsy shop or contact your favorite quilt store.  Wholesale inquiries welcome to highway10designs@mymts.net

Again, I can hook you up with tickets - draw date is January 26th, 2019!

Roundabout by Highway 10 Designs

Today Highway 10 Designs is excited to launch our newest offering - Roundabout.  This pattern includes instructions for place mats and two table runners.  The really exciting part of this pattern is that the shapes of the items fit nicely on round and oval tables, not just ones with square corners!

Above you can see the three items.  They are strip pieced and go together really easily, so you could still get a set together before Christmas!
Below you can see the colorway that I made for my daughter for her first apartment.

Another unique feature of this pattern is that the place mats and the simple runner can be adjusted to any length you require for your table with the instructions we have provided in the pattern.

The table that I used for these photos is quite a large one - the round one is 47" in diameter.  When the table is oval you can see how you could have lots of guests and more place mats would fit in at the ends.

The place mats in the following photos use the standard size we include in the pattern and you can see how they fit on 36", 42" or 45" round tables.  With the included instructions you can adjust the size of the place mats to perfectly fit your own round table, no matter what size it is!

The pattern is available as a PDF download or through the mail in paper format in our Highway 10 Designs Etsy Store.

I love this pattern so much that I couldn't help but start another set after I gave the ones I made to my daughter.  Here is a peak at the colors I chose.  We hope that you love Roundabout as much as we do! Head on over to www.tamarackshack.blogspot.ca and read Kathy's story of how Roundabout came to be.

Blueberry Flavored Detour Place Mats and Runner

Reneta made this fun runner and place mats our of some awesome blueberry fabric she picked up in Newfoundland in the summer.  The pattern she used is Detour by Highway 10 Designs

I don't usually get to quilt small items like this, so these were a fun change of pace.  Reneta left the quilting design up to me but did mention that she like the look of the curls.  I like place mats to have enough quilting so that they come out of the wash and require the least care possible so I did a lot of stitching in the ditch around the elements of the design.

If you want to whip up a set of these for a great Christmas gift the pattern is available as a PDF download (or by mail) from our Etsy shop.

Traction

This is Karen's beautiful version of the Traction pattern by Highway 10 Designs.  I always get really excited when I have the opportunity to quilt one of our quilt designs, and this was the first Traction quilt to come through the doors.

Karen opted for custom quilting on this one, and we decided to keep some of the same design elements from the one I quilted for the original pattern and add some new ones.

I love the straight lines that we opted for in the dark grey section, and I'm glad we kept the design of extending the diamonds into the border.

The back looks awesome.  Fireside fabric lets the quilting shine through.

Traction is Available in our Etsy Store in both as a pdf download or traditional paper versions.  There are three sizes included in the pattern and best of all it doesn't require any special rulers or tools.  It is not a beginner quilt, but it is much easier to put together than the look of the final product would lead  you to believe.  Wholesale inquires welcome - highway10designs@mymtsnet.net

Reneta's Pumpkin Quilt

It has been quite a while since I posted to my blog which is evidenced by the lack of snow in these photos!

Reneta brought me this fun pumpkin quilt.  When I asked Reneta what she had in mind for the quilting, she said she kept thinking about Cinderella when she was putting it together.  She suggested that maybe he needed to have a glass slipper and maybe some mice hidden in it somewhere.  And some magical swirls of course!  Challenge accepted!

I am very happy with how the hidden surprises turned out.  I am not computerized so I always look for a reference online that can guide me as I chalk the design on to the quilt.

The swirly background filled all the odd shapes nicely, and simple quilting in the pumpkins and leaves was all that was required.  The background is a linen fabric and this is the first quilt with linen that I have had the opportunity to work on.

The Fireside fabric on the back shows off the quilting nicely.
