A Pair of Snowflakes

Reneta had double the fun making these Snowflake quilts.  The pattern is called Snowflake by Modern Handcraft.

Reneta won't be keeping these quilts however.  Reneta gave her sister a hand by piecing the matching tops for her.  They will be making their way to Newfoundland as soon as Reneta gets the binding on.

Reneta has made a snowflake quilt for herself last year and we used the Snowwinds pantograph on it and Reneta asked me to do the same on these.

 

Norm & Nanette

This fabulous and fun gnome quilt was made by Megan.  The pattern is called Norm & Nanette by Elizabeth Hartman.

Megan and I discussed quilting options as she wasn't 100% sure if she wanted custom or all over quilting.  Megan's concern was how all over quilting would look on the gnome faces.  We looked at a few different pantographs and I suggested using a thinner thread to ensure that the quilting would be subtle.  Megan selected the Novaya Zhizn pantograph and I used 100 wt. Invisifil thread in a dark peach color.  

I think the piecing is the star of this pattern and the all over quilting with delicate thread works perfectly to play a supporting role.

Megan used a fun group of woodland prints for a lovely pieced backing.

 

Going Coastal

This is Megan's version of the "Going Coastal" pattern by Art East Quilt Co.  Custom quilting was on the menu for this one.  Megan requested mostly stitch in the ditch around the items with small pieces, no quilting on the faces, and some fabulous mermaid hair. 

  I added some details here and there for interest, and when a section was just too large to leave unquilted.  I transitioned the background quilting from sky to water as I just couldn’t bear to quilt water around the fisherman, lighthouse and bird.  Lots of pictures so you can see all the lovely piecing that went into this quilt!

Megan had the cutest backing fabric as well.

Simple but effective

Reneta is truly a prolific quilter.  You will recognize her name if you follow my blog!  This quilt wasn't on her 2020 list of must makes, but she snuck it in when she saw a need.  Reneta's daughter's roommate bought a pile of fabric with plans to make a quilt during the pandemic, but that plan wasn't going to happen.  When asked, of course Reneta said she would help her out.

Reneta asked if I had any ideas for a pattern that could use the 4 Christmas fabrics.  We searched pinterest and thought this simple pattern would let the cute focus fabric shine and let the other blend in.

Reneta made a pile of fabric that was destined to sit in the back of a closet into something that will be enjoyed!  Sometimes simple really is the way to go.

The Gingersnap pantograph with a shiny green Magnifico thread was the perfect finish.

 

Amy's Washboard Road

This is Amy's amazing version of our new Highway 10 Designs Washboard Road quilt pattern.  Amy chose a navy background that sets off the colours of the Ombre Confetti Metallic jelly roll just perfectly.

Amy selected the Oasis pantograph and I used a shiny navy Magnifico thread.  I haven't used this pantograph a lot, but I really like how it looks and have to remember it more often.

I quilted this quilt, but it took a little detour through Emo, Ontario so Kathy could take some more photos for Highway 10 Designs before it returned home to Amy.  We caught a few different Canadian seasons in the process!

Washboard Road by Highway 10 Designs

Let me introduce you to the newest pattern from Highway 10 Designs - Washboard Road.   

This is the 15th pattern Kathy and I has designed as Highway 10 Designs and we are celebrating with a sale! From now until November 15th all paper and PDF patterns in our store are 15% off!

 This pattern is designed to use your favorite precut fabric. Originally conceived to use jelly rolls, Kathy and I quickly realized that this pattern works just as well with Fat Quarters and even Fat Eighths!  The pattern includes instructions for 4 size options including Throw, Twin, Queen and King.

I made the quilt featured on the cover this time around and I am loading up this post with photos because I just love it so much!  The fabric is Fairy Dust by V & Co. for Moda.  I used the Twister pantograph for a simple clean finish, and a silver Maginifico thread to echo the metallic elements in the fabric collection.

Washboard Road is perfect for an experienced beginner and beyond.  I'm sure many quilters out there have purchased a precut because it was "so pretty", but didn't really have a plan, and now it is just waiting on shelf for the right pattern to come along.  Washboard Road might just be that pattern! Monster Mash

Reneta made this super fun monster quilt as part of being a pattern tester for Art East Quilt Company.  The pattern is called "Monster Mash" and is quite unique.  You can build your own monsters by picking from a selection of interchangeable body parts.  How fun!

Reneta and I went back and forth quite a bit trying to decide on the right quilting design which is unusual for us.  Ultimately she let my suggestion be the final decision and I really like the finished product.  These monsters have a fun side to them like "The Muppets" so the Quirky pantograph seemed to be just the right fit.

I also love, love love the border fabric!  The perfect finishing touch.
