Scrappy Strawberry

This delicious scrappy strawberry quilt belongs to Reneta.  The block pattern comes from the  Farm Girl Vintage book.

Reneta selected the Sweet Pea Pantograph and it makes me feel like spring is in the air!

Pie Cherries

This fun quilt belongs to Amy.  The Pie Cherries block is from the Farm Girl Vintage book.

Amy has belonged to a block swap group for a number of years.  Amy picked this block for her turn and the others members of the group sent her blocks in a variety of fun red fabrics.

Amy selected the Sweet Pea pantograph and I think it comes together for a pretty springy finish.

Wonderful Woodland for Baby

Reneta made this darling baby quilt using some of the blocks from the Wonderful Woodland pattern by Art East Quilt Company.  You can see Reneta's original full quilt with all the blocks here.

Reneta requested my freehand woodgrain quilting which is one of my favorite things to do.  I am having trouble deciding on my favourite block!  The blue raccoons are pretty special though.

Blue Kaleidoscope and more

This beautiful Kaleidoscope quilt was made by Karen.  All of the blocks are cut from the single fabric you see in the inner border.  The variation always amazes me.

Karen selected the Flower Child Pantograph and I used a graphite colored So Fine thread for the quilting.

Karen often makes interesting pieced backings and this is the first time I saw a zipper back and I love it!

This second quilt Karen sent was made from the leftover of this Shadow Box quilt.  She chose the Maple Syrup Pantograph which looks great on the front and with the print on the flannel backing.

Weaver Fever

Ann made this warm and cozy Weaver Fever quilt for her daughter.  This was a new to me pattern and if you are wondering it is designed by Animas Quilts.

Ann selected the Come Dance with Me pantograph and supplied a flannel backing and warm and natural batting.

Hudson Bay Point Blanket Quilt

Kristine made this wonderful Hudson Bay Point Blanket quilt.  She requested the Maple Syrup pantograph which is a lovely compliment.

The backing fabric that Kristine sent couldn't be more perfect!  I love it!  I think I may need to put more effort into finding cool quilt backings....

Bird's Hill Quilt - Star Wars Version

This epic quilt was made by Amy using the Bird's Hill Quilt pattern from The Blanket Statement.  It is not only epic in fabric choice, and size but in the number of HSTs Amy had to make and trim!  This quilt is definitely made for a king size bed at 110" x 110" (the third largest to pass through my studio) as it reaches the floor on my queen.

Amy found the coolest Star Wars Watercolor fabric from Camelot fabrics.  She paired it with a black Ruby Star Speckled fabric for the background.  Amy selected the Arrowful pantograph and a lovely copper Magnifico thread that picked up the speckles in the background print.

It's a beauty Amy, but I have to say I'm glad I'm not doing the 440" of binding!! (You should probably cut 12 strips to be safe!)

Fanciful Fliers

Susan sent this lovely quilt and I immediately knew the pantograph that would add the perfect finishing touch.  The Fanciful Fliers pantograph has butterflies and loops and complemented the entire quilt but especially the border print.

It is April 12 and snowing here today so I’ll just enjoy these butterflies and think of false spring that was here when these photos were taken!

Gypsy Wife

This stunning Gypsy Wife quilt was sent to me by Linda for some custom quilting.  As Linda was putting this top together she spent time looking at how others had quilted their Gypsy Wife quilts, and she developed a clear idea of how she wanted hers quilted.

Linda requested simple quilting that highlighted the piecing, mostly stitch in the ditch work, with some added quilting motifs in the larger areas to soften them.

Linda sent some lovely wool batting for the quilt, and it really added definition to the quilting.  Sometimes stitch in the ditch is a lot of work for little visual impact but not this time.  In the case the wool batting was totally worth the splurge!

The entire top was quilted with grey 100 wt. Microquilter thread, and an orange Bottom Line thread in the bottom to blend with the yellow and red backing fabrics.

I know I will never piece my own Gyspy Wife quilt so it was a real treat to have such a beautiful one visit my studio for a short time.
