Shivaun Place

Brittney brought this beautiful quilt.  The pattern is called Shivaun Place by Sassafras Lane and the big blocks make for a nice modern look.  Brittney told me she enjoyed shopping with Jennifer at Needle Crafts and Studio in Beausejour to put this project together.

Brittney came in with one idea of the kind of pantograph she thought she would like, but as we tried different options she immediately was drawn to the Hall of Mirrors pantograph and I think it was the perfect choice.

I think the pop of colour on the back is a nice finishing touch.

Susan's Pedal to the Metal

Susan made this wonderful Pedal to the Metal quilt using a kit from Keystone Modern Creative.  The fabrics are from the Northcott's Simply Neutral line.  Pedal to the Metal is a pattern from Highway 10 Designs and utilizes strip piecing for a quilt that goes together quickly with no points to match!

Susan had seen how Kathy had quilted her version using this fabric collection and asked for the same finish.  I was happy to oblige as it looks fabulous!

The pantograph is called Time Warp and adds loads and loads of texture.

Pretty in Pink

Fern brought this pretty quilt top for finishing.  Fern's sister pieced the top, so Fern didn't know too much about it when she called me.  I was surprised to see that many of the angles were made with a folded edge technique that left a lot of 3D/floppy edges.

I felt the only way that I could successfully quilt the top was to do a freehand design from the front.  If I were to attempt a pantograph from the back my machine foot would inevitably get caught in the loose edges and create chaos.

I doodled some different designs and Fern liked the "3's and e's" so I was happy to proceed with that.  I had to be very careful and did flip the fabric a few times which required some ripping and fixing, but overall it went really well.

Fern also opted to have the binding completed by Marion -  a talented quilter I have been working to offer machine binding services to my clients who request it.  All that is left is for Fern to enjoy her quilt.

Petal Junction in Lilliput

I made this version of our Highway 10 Designs "Petal Junction" pattern for a special couple that got married during the height of Covid restrictions but just had their "Happily Ever After" party.  The fabrics are from the Lilliput collection from Sharon Holland for Art Gallery Fabrics.  I loved the strawberries, frogs and other animals in the prints and hoped the bride would too.

I opted for the more scrappy background and used a number of fat quarters from the Art Gallery Ballerina Fusion Collection. I liked the interesting shades of dusty pink. I love how the large pieces in the Petal Junction pattern allow you to enjoy the prints in a collection.

I used the Cassava pantograph and a dusty pink thread for the quilting.

The backing was one of the prints from the collection as well.

When making the Petal Junction quilt top, the instructions encourage you to make all the bonus HST as you go and use them in another project.  I made the HSTs and by adding a few more from the leftover bits of fabric I was able to make this scrappy table topper/doggie quilt.

I added a scrappy binding to this one after quilting it with my freehand topographical meander.

Petal Junction works great with either Fat Quarter or Half yard cuts and a scrappy or solid background fabric.

Charming Butterflies

Cindy brought this cheerful quilt that she made for her granddaughter.  The pattern is called Charming Butterflies by Holly Daniels and was originally published in the August 2012 issue of Quilter's World magazine but is now available through e-patterns central.

When I suggested the Fanciful Fliers pantograph Cindy was in total agreement.  The pantograph looks fabulous on the teal Cuddletex backing that Cindy provided.  Cindy said she really didn't love the color, but it matched the top perfectly and her granddaughter loves the color which is most important.

Most of the quilts that come through my studio go home to the maker to finish the binding.  Occasionally I would get asked if I offered binding, and I never had the time or desire to add that to my services.  I have started working with another talented quilter who is happy to offer binding services if that would be something you are interested in.  Cindy took advantage of the option and her quilt was returned bound and ready to gift.

Knitted Stars

This lovely pair of Knitted Star quilts were made by best quilting buddies Amy and Reneta. (They even sent me one long piece of backing to use for both tops.)

The pattern is from Lo and Behold Stitchery.  Reneta and Amy selected different pantographs with different feels, but I think they both look great.  I always say there is never just one right way to quilt a quilt!

First up is Amy's version.  She selected the Breath of the Gods pantograph and the swirls look like snow in winter to me.

Reneta requested a more geometric option and settles on the Cool Beans pantograph.  Totally different but a great option too!

BQ3

Susan brought this wonderful quilt that is made from the Maple Island Quilts BQ3 pattern.  The series of BQ patterns have large pieces that allow you to enjoy a print without chopping it up too mauch.

We decided on the Dainty pantograph as it also has a bit of a larger scale and seemed to balance with the piecing and the prints really well.

Shalane's Home Quarter

I had the pleasure of quilting this pretty quilt for Shalane.  The pattern is Home Quarter by Highway 10 Designs.  It is a low stress pattern that uses fat quarter cuts of fabric.

Shalane used the Open Road collection from Bonnie Christine for Art Gallery Fabrics.

Shalane selected the pretty "Knit 1 Purl 2" pantograph and looks pretty with a sage green thread and Quilter's Dream Blend batting.

If you have a Fat Quarter bundle waiting for a project you can purchase a PDF or Paper copy of the Home Quarter pattern of the Highway 10 Designs website.
