Juxtaposition

 

Wendy loves buying and sewing with batiks - a women after my own heart.  She dug into her scraps and stash to pull out these jewel tone fabrics to make this rich quilt.  The pattern is called Juxtaposition and was design by Amy of Blue Underground Studios.  The pattern is available as a free download from All People Quilt.

We decided a nice curving pantograph would be a nice compliment to the simple straight lines of the piecing.  Windswept was the choice of the day with a dark teal Magnifico thread.

Wendy brought a mottled teal Fireside for the backing which is becoming a favorite with so many quilters.

Hudson Bay Point Blanket Quilt

 

Wendy brought the Hudson's Bay Point Blanket Quilt that she made for some special friends.  Wendy didn't want straight line quilting, so we kept with the Canadian theme and added the Maple Syrup pantograph.

Wendy add a beautiful cream Fireside on the back for an extra cozy finish.

Shylyte's Jelly Roll Race

Shylyte put together this lovely Jelly Roll Race quilt using the Firefly collection by Sarah Watts for Ruby Star Society.

Many of the prints included some subtle metallic elements.  Shylyte chose the Tickle pantograph and we decided to use a shiny thread that was in a golden beige hue for the quilting.  A true gold would have been too much, but I think we added just the right amount sparkle.

The rich plum Fireside backing shows off the quilting really well and makes such a cozy quilt.

 

Sky Cabin

Shelly brought this striking quilt with a fun retro vibe.  The pattern is called Sky Cabin from Toad and Sew.  It is a clever take on a traditional log cabin block.

Shelly chose the geometric Bauhaus Baby pantograph and we used a soft peach coloured thread.  Shelly added a cozy flannel backing.

This one looked really good in my spare room.  It was a little hard to say goodbye!

Trending

Shelly brought her version of Art East Quilt Company's "Trending" quilt.  This pattern was a fun mystery quilt and participants had only seen the sloth block when they signed up.  Shelly used the kit deigned by John at Art East, but added her own fun border to make it a bed sized quilt. 

Shelly will be giving this quilt to a special little girl in her life, and decided on the Ginger Heart pantograph.

Shelly used a really nice Mammoth flannel from Robert Kaufmann and it just has the nicest feel.

Modern Building Blocks

Shelly brought her Moda Modern Building Blocks quilt.  It is hard to get a sense of the scale of this quilt from one photo. The largest blocks are 36"!   The second photo shows it on my queen size bed to get a better idea of what it is really like.

This kit came out in 2015 and Shelly got pulled into the wave of people joining in.  The instructions were very unique and caused Shelly to put the project away a number of times before finishing it.  With having to cut each of the 48 blocks from a separate page of instructions and limited piecing instructions I can see why this turned into a multi year project!

Shelly requested straight line quilting, and we decided to keep the spacing organic.  I tried to avoid the stitching lines going in and out of the ditch.  I think the lines add a nice simple modern finish.

Shelly added a lovely floral flannel backing that gives the quilt a spring like feel.

This quilt was quite the undertaking and I think Shelly should be proud that she saw it to the end!

 

Hexagon Log Cabin

Myrna sent this lovely hexagon log cabin quilt for some finishing.

Myrna selected the Feathered Curls pantograph and I used a blue grey thread that didn't totally disappear into the border fabric.

I love the texture coming thorugh on the back.

 

Anita's Arrowhead

Sydney made this autumnal "Anita's Arrowhead" quilt from fabrics collected over the years.  The Anita's Arrowhead pattern is currently available as a free download from the Quilting Daily website.

There were many pantographs that looked good on this quilt, but we were both drawn to Oak Breeze.  I don't seem to stitch this one out very often, but every time I do I really enjoy the movement it adds.

Sydney added a little bit of interest (and width) to her backing by inserting a gold tone-on-tone stripe down the length of the quilt that compliments the backing print.

 

Wonderful Woodland for Finn

This is the 3rd baby quilt I made for my first grandchild.  Kyla and Reed had settled on a Woodland theme and didn't know if they were having a boy or girl.  They loved the Art East Wonderful Woodland pattern and I was happy to have an excuse to make this pattern as I have quilted many for others.  I did make one change to the pattern....

Kyla was able to go shopping with me and selected this lovely blue Northcott Canvas fabric for background.  I did a little shopping at a few of my favorite stores to augment the brown section of my stash and then pulled the different fabrics for all the animals.  There are very few repeats and that was a lot of fun.

The one major change I made was changing out the porcupine block for an owl.  My grandbaby needed an owl!  I designed an owl in EQ and decided to paper piece it.

My favorite way to quilt this pattern is to add my freehand wood grain pattern.  I love the texture it adds.

For the backing I added a wonderful denim blue Fireside for maximum cuddliness.  I chose Quilters Dream Puff batting.

I hope Finn enjoys this one as I loved making it!
