Shylyte's Home Quarter

Shylyte has been collecting bright polka dot fabrics for a little white now.  When she learned the first of  her friends was going to be a grandma she knew it was the perfect chance to use them in a project.  Shylyte used 12 Fat Quarters to make the version of the Highway 10 Designs Home Quarter pattern.

Shylyte selected a new pantograph in my collection called Cool Beans.  I love how it looks against all of the polka dots.  And who doesn't love a Fireside backing to show off the quilting and cuddle with?

Sonja’s Windows

This lovely scrappy quilt is from a pattern called Sonja's Windows.  It was started by a family member of Mary's.  Mary completed it and brought it to me for quilting so that it could be given as a wedding gift.  Isn't that just wonderful?

Mary selected the Lilac pantograph and a medium blue thread for the quilting.  The overall look in just so pleasing.

Homecoming

Friends Shalane, Reneta and Amy worked together to make this lovely quilt for a coworker who is retiring.  The pattern is called Homecoming by Lo and Behold Stitchery.

The group was quick to agree on the Gatsby pantograph to finish this one off.  I think they made a great choice.  Choosing thread for quilts with high contrast is always a little nerve wracking.  I was very confident in the charcoal thread that was slightly lighter than the background until I took the first few stitches on the light peach.  I consulted the group and the assured me they were good with the choice.  In the end, when there is thread covering the entire quilt top, I love the choice and I know it was a good one, but I'm sure I have a few more grey hairs because of it!

Pair of Simply Dashing Quilts

Reneta made these great Canadian themed quilts for the exchange students that have been staying with her this past year.  The pattern she used is Simply Dashing from Highway 10 Designs.  The fabrics are from the Northcott's Stonehenge Collection- Oh Canada 10.

Reneta selected the Windswept pantograph for both quilts.

The second quilt uses a fabric from Northcott's Canvas line for the background of the quilt.

These quilts will be a great memory of their time in Canada and their host mom who is a talented quilter.

Friendship Star Variation

This classic quilt was made by Tannis.  A two color quilt has a lot of impact and this mix of blue and tan is lovely.

Tannis left the quilting plan up to me.  The Bora Bora was my choice.

I know this quilt is being given as a wedding gift and I am sure the couple will be thrilled.

Amy's Mile-A-Minute Quilt

Amy has a way of taking the oddest bits of fabric scraps and morphing them into something eye catching.  Amy referred to this as a "Mile-a-Minute" quilt.   I think what makes this quilt so pleasing to the eye is the narrowed color palette that Amy stuck to when selecting her scraps.  It add a calming component to the more busy piecing.

As soon as I saw this one I suggested my freehand topographic quilting as the organic nature of that design seemed just right to me.  Amy happily agreed.

It is always fun for me to work on scrap quilts of people I quilt for often.  I recognized where that little x block came from - check out the quilt here.

Great job creating something from nothing Amy!

Guiding Stars

This lovely quilt was made by Kristine.  The pattern is called Guiding Stars from Lavender Lime Designs and features a lovely line of fabric called Songbook from Fancy That Design House for Moda.

All of the panels feature lines from traditional hymns.

Kristine selected the Fanciful Fliers pantograph and it adds a nice delicate touch to finish off the quilt.

Mod Melons

This fun summer quilt belongs to Amy.  Amy and I are both participating in a Queen Bee Block Swap this year.  Amy was the Queen in February, which means she got to select a block and all the participants made her two blocks so she could put this fabulous top together.

The block pattern is a free one from Suzy Quilts called Mod Melons. Amy requested a low volume background and a range of watermelon colors.  She got such and interesting mix.  These blocks were fast and fun to make so I know many of us sent an extra or two.

The fabric that Amy found for the outer border and backing couldn't have been more perfect. For the quilting Amy selected the Tickle pantograph and I used a pale pink thread as we both thought the pantograph looked like watermelon juice splashes.

I just love how these swap blocks turned into the perfect fresh summer quilt.
