Christmas Mischief

Donna brought this fun quilt that she made for her Grinch loving grandson.  The pattern is called Christmas Mischief and is available on the Robert Kaufmann website.

Donna chose the Quirky pantograph and we decided that a white So Fine thread would be the best overall choice to not detract from the cute panels.

Donna found a great green Fireside fabric to make this quilt extra cozy!

I love getting to know my clients and learning about the special people that they make quilts for.  Donna delivered this quilt to her grandson in Toronto and shared a picture. I love it!

Chandelier

This pretty Chandelier quilt was made by Marion.  Marion used to do custom quilting for clients on her domestic sewing machine, but she no longer does because of the wear and tear on the body.  Marion had a real vision for how she wanted this quilted, and it was fun collaborating, doing things a little out of the norm and bringing her vision to life.

Marion's request was for me to quilt the body of the quilt and to leave the borders for her to do on her domestic machine.  Not the typical request, but totally doable if we came up with the right plan for the centre.  Marion had a vision of a vertical design that enhanced the flow of the piecing.  Marion also requested that l leave the thread tails for her to knot and bury.

When I sent a doodle of the above freehand design, Marion was fully on board.  I loaded the quilt sideways on my machine.  I started with a couple on stitches on the border fabric, that Marion would pick out to where she wanted to knot it, and did continuous lines to the other border.

Marion then added the cable designs in the border using her domestic sewing machine.

The quilt is now bound and washed to bring out the crinkly goodness and is ready to be given to someone special.

Christmas Log Cabin

I had the pleasure of quilting the fabulous log cabin quilt.  It was made with a countless number of fabrics all with a Christmas theme. Scrappy yet elegant, and holiday but in a subtle way.  Sadly the maker of this quilt did not get to see it finished before she passed away, but her quilting friends are seeing it to the end and will donate it to be used as a fundraiser.

I chose the Allium pantograph and my favorite gold thread - Superior's Magnifico in colour 2063 Clover Honey.  I'm adding more pictures so that you can enjoy seeing the multitude of Christmas fabrics that have been included.

Warmin' Up Winter Flannel

Kristine made this darling quilt using the Warmin' up Winter flannel collection from Northcott fabrics.  She chose the Snazzy Snowflake pantograph to keep with the theme.

Kristine backed this quilt with more flannel from the collection.

Purple Log Cabin

Ann sewed many, many seams to create this pretty log cabin quilt.  She used her design wall to come up with the pattern that starts from the centre.

To keep with the pretty colors and floral print, Ann selected the Feathered Garden pantograph.  It really jumps off the solids on the front of the quilt.  We used a shiny lilac Magnifico thread.

Flower Pot

This beautiful quilt was made by three friends as a gift for one of their daughters.  The pattern is called Flower Pot by Kim McLean for Glorious Color.

There is an immense amount of hand appliqué all done in an amazing collection of Kaffe Fassett fabrics.

When Leslie booked the quilt in she told me they were interested in custom quilting.  After some discussion and looking for other examples, and discussing their likes and dislikes, we came to the conclusion that an allover design might be a better fit for this quilt.  I had done a quilt with hand applique earlier this fall that received an all over design so I was able to share pictures that helped us all visualize this choice.

My clients weren't concerned about the cost, but the choice to go all over, vs custom stitching around all the applique and filling all the irregular areas resulted in a bill that was about 1/4 of what it would have been.

We decided on a simple pattern that was repetitive and would recede into the background allowing the fabric and appliqué to continue to be the star of the show.  The Breath of the gods pantograph fit the bill perfectly.

We were all thrilled with the final product.

Gemini Twins

Tammy made this fun pair of quilts for newborn twins in her family.  The pattern is Gemini from Villa Rosa Designs and it couldn't be more fitting.

Both quilts received the Gingersnap pantograph for the quilting design. The first quilt with the white background had a lovely purple Fireside backing and we used a light lavender thread for the quilting.

We chose a dark teal thread for the quilting on the black background.  It doesn't disappear completely, but also doesn't distract from the graphic design.  These quilts also when home bound and ready to gift thanks to the binding service I facilitate through my associate Marion.

Vintage Grandmother's Flower Garden

Susan brought this wonderful vintage Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt.  It is entirely hand pieced!  Susan told me that she stopped working on it in 1981 when she changed jobs and picked it up again during her extra time at home during COVID.

It was fun to see Susan remembering what was originally made out of the these great fabrics.

Susan left the quilting plan up to me.  I decided that  simple custom quilting of freehand continuous curves would keep the vintage feel.
