Cheeky Churn Dash

Carolyne brought this cheerful quilt and requested some custom quilting to add something special to the white open spaces.  The pattern is called Cheeky Churn Dash by Kustom Kwilter

Carolyne was drawn to more modern/geometric designs rather than anything flowery or feathery so after some doodling and texting ideas we settled on these designs.  For the colourful churn dash sections I added a ribbon meander in a blue thread.

For the border I stitched in the ditch around the coloured sections and added curls on either side.

Carolyne used all her extra fabrics to piece her backing. If she hadn't been extremely careful with her piecing and pressing, such a heavily pieced backing could have easily resulted in some pleats or tucks. (Happy to report there weren't any!)  I did learn that ruler work with so many seams isn't my favorite as at times I would feel some resistance, so I won't likely accept a highly pieced back for custom quilting in the future.

52 Blocks in 52 Weeks

This is Syndey's verison of the "52 Blocks in 52 Weeks" pattern that was a quilt-a-long with the Canadian Quilter's Association in 2019.  (The pattern is now available to purchase from Jackie White Quilts.)

Sydney pulled her colour palette from the focus fabric she used in the border and in all of her blocks.

She selected the Macrame pantograph and decided she liked how it looked running vertically instead of the more standard side to side orientation.  It adds some nice motion but still lets all the blocks be the star of the show.

Batik Jelly Roll Race

I just love the colour palette of this Jelly Roll Race Quilt.  The fabric is a Jelly Roll from Celestial batiks in the Neutral colorway.   This is a shop sample for Keystone Modern Creative and Leslie decided to cut her strips in half before sewing them together to change up the look a little.

Leslie selected a new to me pantograph called "Love Those Curls" and I think it is the perfect finish for this quilt!  And who doesn't love the rich charcoal Fireside backing fabric??

Lovely Baby Quilts

Two lovely baby quilts recently came through the studio.  The first is a "Love you to the Moon and Back Panel" made by Audrey.  She chose a starry pantograph and I love the happy yellow backing she had.

Liz brought this cute toddler quilt with nursery rhyme panels.  Liz left the pantograph choice up to me but asked for an open quilting design.  I used the "Love those Curls" pantograph and I just love how it looks on the plush backing!

Postcards from Sweden

This quilt just radiates joy.  It was made as a shop sample at Keystone Modern Creative and kits are available containing the Kona cottons suggested in the pattern.   The pattern is called Postcards from Sweden by Jeli Quilts and is free download.

Leslie selected the Cassava pantograph and supplied some beautiful Quilters Dream Select cotton batting and a plum Fireside backing.  What thread color to use?  We decided to have some fun and use a hot pink!

Carnival of Color

Audrey made this vibrant Carnival of Color quilt.  The pattern is a freebie from Free Spirit Fabrics and uses the bold fabrics of Kaffe Fassett.

Audrey selected a new pantograph from my collection called Feather Unfurled.  We used pink thread top and bottom to continue the vibrant feeling of this quilt.

The way Aurey fussy cut the fabrics for the on point squares really adds a lot to the final product.

Winter Mittens

I am happy to share a quilt that is all mine!  This quilt came together a part of a Queen Bee block swap I participated in last year.   Every month one member of the group would select a block pattern and the other participants would make two blocks and pop them in the mail.  I selected this free Winter Mittens pattern from Sew Fresh quilts and sent everyone a piece of my background fabric.

Here are some close up photos of all the cool blocks I received.

I selected the Snow Winds pantograph as it just seemed fitting.

And I finally found the perfect opportunity to use this interesting piece of wide backing fabric that had been sitting on my shelf for awhile.  I think it fit in perfectly.
