Reneta's Nautical Sampler

This wonderful quilt belongs to Reneta.  The blocks are from the Nautical collection by Sandra Healy Designs.  Reneta and some friends participated in a Queen Bee swap.  They take turns picking and making blocks for each other.

Everyone added some really cool fabrics to their blocks.  Reneta pieced it all together and grounded the whole thing with some lovely navy sashing.  Then it was my turn.  Reneta chose the London Fog pantograph.

Reneta added a cozy black Stonehenge flannel for the backing.

Liane & Shannon

This post is all in the family.  Lianne and her daughter Shannon brought some lovely quilts this summer.  Lianne made the first two quilts for her brother and sister-in-law.   Lianne used the Easy Street pattern from the Fabric Cafe for this woodsy one.  

Liane chose the Terrace pantograph and added a lovely backing with fall leaves.

This pretty quilt was again a pattern from the Fabric Cafe called Rail Fence.

Liane chose the London Fog pantograph which added some nice movement.

Shannon made this fun beachy/camping quilt.  The Bora Bora pantograph added a perfect sea breeze to finish it off.

Put the Kettle On

 

This bold an beautiful quilt belongs to Reneta who loves yellow. Reneta received the blocks as part of a Queen Bee block swap that we both participated in last year. 

Reneta selected the free "Put the Kettle On" block from the Snapshot quilt a long that the Fat Quarter Shop hosted.  She sent each of the participants a piece of bold yellow Ruby Star spark fabric and in return everyone made her two blocks.

It was really fun to see all the different fabrics that everyone chose to make all the unique teapots.

Reneta selected the London Fog pantograph which is just so fitting!

Cutting Curves from Straight Pieces

Here is another batik beauty from Wendy.   The pattern comes from the book "Cutting Curves from Straight Pieces" by Debbie Bowles of Maple Island Quilts.  

Wendy chose the London Fog pantograph and beautiful Magnifico Thread in a color called Fig Tree #2081.  I always love the shiny thread on the waxy batiks.

And the quilting shows up beautifully on the cozy fireside backing.

 

Karen's One Block Wonder

This is Karen's unique take on a One Block Wonder quilt.  Karen always seems to find a way to include some unexpected details in her quilts - on both the front and back.

The border details add such interest to the quilt.

 

Often with OBW quilts, makers like to include a piece of the original fabric in the border or on the back of the quilt.  I love how Karen framed out the different motifs from her feature fabric in a strip on the back of the quilt.  

Karen chose the London fog pantograph which adds nice texture and somehow seems extra fitting with fabric containing tea and biscuits.

Karen said that she made this quilt to use in her new sunroom.  I hope she enjoys many a cup of tea while watching the birds, and maybe a nap or two!

 

I'm still here....

It has been over two months since there has been any activity here.  I have busy quilting for my clients and enjoying my summer filled with fishing and camping and my oldest daughter's wedding!  Sitting down to edit photos and post them never seemed to make it to the top of the priority list.  Now that September has arrived I decided that I better make an attempt to get caught up in sharing some of the wonderful quilts that have visited my studio in the last few months!  Starting the catch up phase with four beauties today...

First up is Glen's Woodland Daybreak quilt.  The colour palette is beachy and serene and just so soothing.  Glen and Angela decided on the the Fascination pantograph and it was just what this elegant quilt needed.

Next is this cozy quilt that Mary made for her adult son.  The rich colours and matching minkee backing are very inviting.  

Mary chose the London Fog pantograph, and asked if I could add in a little personalization as well.  I love an opportunity to add a little something extra to one of my client's quilts.  I added some handwriting in one of the sashing rows that reads " Made with extra love, Mum 2021"  Mary shared that her son always asked her if the cookies that she baked were "made with extra love?"  I loved the story and was happy to make the request a reality.

Gay sent over this lovely nautical wall-hanging for a simple all over finish with the Breath of the gods pantograph.  The hardest part was choosing a thread color that looked good both the navy and light sections.  I ended up with a caramel colour that was similar to the highlights in the fabrics. 

And last but not least was this lovely applique quilt from Lenore.  Lenore said this quilt was about 30 years in the making, so she was happy to finally have it ready to be quilted.  

Lenore requested custom quilting for her project.  The applique was a mix of needle turn and machine styles.  I sent Lenore some doodles of a variety of different background fills, and she loved the look of a simple stipple.  I did not not stitch in the ditch around the applique, I just went close to it with the  background fill.  This was a less time consuming and therefore  more cost effective option that still provided a lovely finish.  There is always more that one way to quilt a quilt, and sometimes less is the right decision.

Lenore's choice of the solid purple border fabric was the perfect place for a feather border that added a little something extra.   

The quilting shows up so well on the solid light backing fabric.  The dark purple thread in the border and the white bobbin thread behaved really well too!

Amy's "Our Hearts Will Go On"

This is Amy's stunning version of the "Our Hearts Will Go On" quilt by The Fabric Addict.

Amy chose the London Fog pantograph and a wide Stonehenge backing from my selection  She left the thread selection up to me.  It is always a bit tricky to commit to a thread colour when the fabrics in the quilt go from very light to very dark.  I used a shiny Magnifico thread in a color called Horizon- 2146 that was a nice middle ground and looked nice across the quilt.

I know Amy is giving the quilt away to a special couple, I hope the love it as much as I do.
