Modern Minnesota Stars & A New Website

Our Highway 10 Designs Minnesota Stars pattern is now available in a paper version as well as a PDF download!  Kathy made new version using modern fabric for Up North Quilt Shop in International Falls and we loved it so much we decided to put it on the cover.

The original version in Kansas Troubles prints is still a classic, but this quilt certainly lends itself to different interpretations.

Kathy at www.tamarackshack.blogspot.ca did the piecing and the quilting on this one.  She did let me offer my 2 cents here and there when sharing pictures via text as she was picking fabric and deciding on a quilting plan which was fun for me!  Here are some closeups of her awesome work.

In other Highway 10 Designs news we just launched a shiny new website at www.highway10designs.com

You can see lots of photos of quilts made with all our different patterns and shop for paper and PDF copies.  Our Etsy shop is still open as well.

Scrappy Eiffel Tower

The is another scrappy masterpiece made by Reneta.  She saw a picture of a quilt in progress on Pinterest and decided she needed to make one for herself.  To our knowledge there is no commercial pattern.  Reneta was inspired by this post on the Red Poppy Quilts blog.  As Reneta was piecing it she was finding the quilt was turning out a little long for its width so I suggested that she leave off the top border.  The top border is usually hidden when the quilt in on the bed, so it won't be noticed and it helped keep the quilt a better proportion, without making oddly small top and bottom borders.

When Reneta passed the quilt top on to me she asked if  I knew of a Fleur de Lis pantograph that she could buy for this quilt.  I showed her my "Joust" pantograph with is definitely Fleur de Lis inspired, and she loved it and gave the go ahead

Reneta used her scrappy batiks for the tower and a mix of neutrals for the background.  She had just enough of this cool border print to finish the quilt.

And just a reminder that the pattern sale continues until Midnight tonight over at the

Snowflake Quilt

I recently got to quilt Reneta's take on the very popular Snowflake Quilt by Modern Handcraft.  Reneta of course made the scrappy version being the scrap quilt queen that she is, and decided to add more squares than the original to suit her size preference.

Reneta requested a snowflake pantograph and "Snow Winds" by Barbara Becker was the choice, and I suggested a shiny white Maginfico thread for a little bit of shine.

More and more Roundabout Place Mats and a Black Friday Sale!

I think Reneta may be the #1 fan of out Highway 10 Designs Roundabout place mat and table runner pattern.  I recently shared her cabin themed set, and today I am sharing two more!  She said she just couldn't stop making them.  I think they turned out awesome!

First up is this set that included the cool seaside word fabric.  I did some ditch stitching between the different fabrics and then a few simple designs in the wider sections.

The second set for today has this awesome combination of fabrics including the boats around the outer edge.

I changed up the quilting designs on this set.  All the quilting I've done here would be easy to translate to a domestic machine. (hint, hint)

i just love them - classy and fun!

Now for the best part....

PDF and Paper patterns are 20% off until midnight on Monday.  Follow this link and you could make some wonderful Roundabout projects like Reneta or any of other patterns.

Donna's Pinwheels

Donna sent this fresh pinwheel quilt to me this fall.  She requested puffy batting and a pantograph with a least medium density.

We decided on Quilter's Dream Puff batting, and the Glamorous Pantograph (I quilt it without the little circles).

I love the back as much as the front!

Nautical Row Quilt

I had the pleasure of quilting this very creative quilt for Gay when the grass was still green!  It was a row exchange that she participated in a her quilting group.  Gay started out with the nautical flag rows.

Other participants made cute and creative rows, and Gay put the top together.

Gay selected the Bora Bora pantograph in a denim blue colors.  This quilt may be finding a home with her son on his boat, which makes her backing choice even more appropriate!

International Exchange Rounds 4 & 5

Remember these fabulous blocks? I haven't posted an update on this exchange since May!   We got a little off our schedule because of some health and life issues.  We all agreed that this supposed to be fun and not stress inducing so we added some time in where needed   Round 4 reveal came in too close to my move for me to post it so now I will share round 4 and the final round 5.

The Round 4 theme was curved piecing.  Everyone definitely had their own spin on it.  Only rules were that the curves needed to be sewn and to use our focus fabric somewhere.

My block is called Potter's Wheel by Briar Hill Designs.  I  hope to make the whole quilt pattern some day.

Desley had a cool take on a card trick block.

Browyn used a lot of the focus fabric in her concentric circles.

And Kathy did a curved pinwheel.

For our final round we thought a nod to the floral focus fabric would be in order.  So any block you could interpret as floral was the request.

My block used a lot of the focus fabric in both the background and foreground.

Bronwyn wowed me with her teeny tiny hexies!  I'm sure they are hand pieced.  Remember we all make 4 identical blocks to share!

Desley gave us the log cabin flower variation.

And Kathy used simple petals for her flower.

This is third exchange that we have done as group, and it has been super fun to see how differently everyone used the focus fabrics and themes.  Our next deadline is to have our blocks put together into a top by May.  Here is a summary of what everyone did.
