Woodland Baby Quarter Sections

This is the 2nd baby quilt that I made for my first grandchild.  I asked my daughter if she had any requests for a quilt.  She didn't know if she was having a boy or a girl, but had decided on a woodland theme.  She said that she would like me to use one of my Highway 10 Designs patterns.   I was surprised at this request but was happy to oblige once we happened upon a super cute fabric collection.

Quarter Sections is a fat quarter friendly pattern that is available from the Highway 10 Designs website in both instant PDF download or traditional paper formats.

For the baby size, you only need 5 fat quarters and some border and binding fabric.  We chose three prints from Northcott's Woodland Adventure collection - two for the body and a directional print for the border.  I added three blenders from my stash to let the prints shine.

I decided to quilt it using the Oak Breeze pantograph.

I added two of the fabrics to the back to use up some extra I bought and keep things interesting. The top is the perfect size to fit on one width of regular fabric which is a bonus.

Here is Finn thoughtfully posing for a picture on his new quilt.

Baby Quarter Sections Quilt

If you are local to me you will know that these photos were not taken in the last few days, we are having our first snowfall of the season!  These photos were taken earlier in October. when I was finishing up this quilt.

My daughter Kendra and I made this sweet baby quilt for our neighbors who just had their first daughter.  We knew is was a girl ahead of time, so Kendra and I were able to pick out some really pretty fabrics at Needle Crafts and Studio in Beausejour.  (Thanks to Jennifer for being so patient while we moved many bolts while trying to come to an agreement).  We used the  Highway 10 Designs Quarter Sections pattern which uses five fat quarters plus borders to make a generous sized baby quilt.

Kendra and I shared the workload with her giving me the tasks she likes least.  I got to cut and add the borders, as well as quilt and bind it.  Kendra likes to piece and be in charge of the pressing, and I have to say she is more meticulous that me, so it really works out great.

I used the Tufty panto for the first time, and its smaller scale suited the baby sized quilt well.
I also love the peach flannel that we found for the backing as well.

Animal Hugs Quarter Section

Reneta made this absolutely adorable baby quilt using the Quarter Sections pattern by Highway 10 Designs. Did you know that all you need is 5 fat quarters and 3/4 yard of border fabric to make this top that measures a generous 39" x 45"?!?

Reneta chose the Gingersnap pantograph to complete the look.

The fabric line that Reneta used is Animal Hugs by 3Wishes Fabrics.  The prints are so cute!

The next time you are in need of a fast and fun baby quilt think of Quarter Sections.

King Size Quarter Sections

This fabulously rich quilt was made by Bonnie.  The pattern is our Highway 10 Designs Quarter Sections pattern.  Bonnie made the King size version with some additional borders and it came out to 102" x 126" - Bonnie has a few days of binding in her future, but it will be so worth it! You can see it on my Queen size bed below.

Bonnie fabric selection was mostly Orientals with a metallic highlight with a mix of batiks and cottons mixed in.  Bonnie selected the "Paisley" pantograph and I used my favorite Magnifico gold thread - 2063 Clover Honey.  It is a pretty gold thread that isn't too brassy.

Bonnie choose and brown Stonehenge wide back and we used the extra wide Quilter's Dream Blend batting.

Audrey's Quarter Sections

I had the pleasure of quilting Audrey's version of our Highway 10 Designs Quarter Sections quilt.  Audrey had a vision for this quilt that influenced everything from her color palette to the quilting design that she chose.

Audrey shared that to her the center of the quilt represents the fields flourishing and in fallow.  The outer border is the highway running alongside and the inner border is the ditch between.  After hearing this I knew fancy feathery border was not what this quilt needed!  Audrey opted for the Breath of the gods pantograph which perfectly adds the touch of wind blowing across the prairie landscape.

Audrey plans to keep this quilt for herself, which is not something I hear my clients say often!

Quarter Sections x 2

I made this Quarter Sections quilt to have on hand for the arrival of a baby girl.   Quarter Sections by Highway 10 Designs uses fat quarters this baby size only takes 5!   Add a border and you are almost done!

I decided to quilt some freehand flowers in the body of the quilt and and fun feathers in the border.

The backing is is a pretty pink flannel.

This is Reneta's latest version of our Quarter Sections pattern.  The  Dr. Seuss fabric is cheerful and Reneta even trimmed some small panel pieces to fit in place of few blocks.

Reneta provided a red minky backing and I thought the "Quirky" pantograph was the perfect compliment.

Quarter Sections is a very versatile pattern and uses almost the entire fat quarter.  If you have some fat quarters or need a quick gift, consider it.  You can find it in the Highway 10 Designs Etsy Store.

Quarter Sections in Tula Pink!

Amy made this funky version of our Quarter Sections pattern using Tula Pink's "Tabby Road" line of fabric.  I can honestly say it never would have occurred to me to piece this top, but that is what makes quilting for others so much fun!

Amy loves her Tula Fabric so of course there is more of it on the back!

Amy left the quilting decisions up to me, and because there was a plain solid border I wanted to have a little fun.  My version of 3's & e's (swirls) in the center and some casual feathers in the border.

I used a pastel variegated thread throughout the quilt, but it really didn't come through in the photos.

If you have a stack of fat quarters and aren't sure what to do with them, our Quarter Sections pattern offers 6 sizes and comes together quickly.  The 8" squares let enjoy enjoy the fabric prints that you fell in love you without chopping them up too small.
