Meadowland

Amy is one of my clients who is always aware of the latest quilting trends and cool fabric lines.  She brought me this super sweet version of the Meadowland Quilt from Along Came June.  If you want to see lots of colour combinations search #meadowlandquilt on Instagram - today there were over 7000 posts!

Amy used a line of fabrics designed by Amy Sinibaldi for Art Gallery Fabrics called Paperie.  I love the little phrases in the print!

Amy chose the Pieces of My Heart pantograph and one of my Northcott backings.

True North

Jamie brought this patriotic True North Quilt by Patchworks Studio. This quilt was specifically design for Northcott's Oh Canada Stonehenge line.  Jamie picked it up as a kit.

When Jamie saw the Maple Syrup panto she knew that was exactly what she wanted for the quilting.

Jamie brought this minkee type backing that had a sherpa backside, so I suggested so batting as the backing was thick enough on it own.

Catching Up!

I have been busy quilting, but have not kept up with posting so here goes!

Marilyn brought me this quilt that she made with all the leftovers from her Lug Nuts quilt that I recently quilted for her.  You can see the original here.  Super resourceful!  Marilyn chose the Ebb & Flow pantograph and a charcoal colored thread.

Eleanor sent me the autumnal colored Disappearing Nine Patch quilt.  I had the perfect Stonehenge wide back to compliment it.  I decided on the Mimosa pantograph.

Isabelle put together this cozy flannel top with a animal panel and some complimentary borders.  She decided on the Novaya Zhizn pantograph.

Jamie brought this bright and bold top.  The border print is totally unique and she added a bold backing to continue the fun.

I haven't used the Hall of Mirrors pantograph in awhile, but I love the calming modern touch it gave to the quilt.

Knowing that I offered basting as one of my services, Debbie asked if I would be able to help with her duvet project.  Debbie had been given some home grown wool batts from her uncle's specialty sheep.  She had made one duvet a number of years ago and tied it, but wasn't 100% pleased with the results as the wool did shift some as the wool was just carded and didn't have a scrim to stabilize it.  I was up for giving it a go!

I loaded the solid fabrics like I would for a regular quilt, and sandwiched the gorgeous wool in between. (Interestingly, the batts went by weight rather than size.)  I stitched horizontal channels every 4 inches with a hybrid stitch length - longer than my regular quilting stitch, but much shorter than my basting stitches as these were not to be removed.

We were both pleased with the final product.  Debbie was going to trim the batting and turn the backing to the front to finish the edges, and then sew some pretty covers to go over top.

Dawn's HST

Dawn brought me this pretty and springy quilt top to finish for her.  She used a layer cake to make the HST and this top came together quickly.  This quilt really had a dramatic transformation while on my machine.

It went from nice to a bit more wow with the Tickle Too pantograph, variegated Fantastico thread and Quilter's Dream Puff Batting.  Quilts don't always need to be complicated to be beautiful.

Fancy Forest Baby (aka Quilt Miracle of 2019)

Reneta made this fantastic baby quilt for her future daughter-in-law to give as a shower gift.  The pattern is Fancy Forest by Elizabeth Hartman.  Reneta amazes me with how much she can produce in a year, but now she has amazed me with her sheer determination and willingness to meet a deadline.

Reneta agreed to make this quilt awhile ago and the shower date seemed far into the future.  When her daughter-in-law asked how the quilt was coming along on the Wednesday before the Sunday shower, Reneta snapped into action.  Her goal was to have a top to wrap up for Sunday, and being the supportive friend that I am, I totally doubted her and said there was no way that it could be done, as she also works as teacher. The pattern of choice is not just a simple nine patch! But I did offer that if she could actually get the top together and my machine was momentarily empty  I would love to be part of "Quilt Miracle 2019."

Reneta put in a long evening on Thursday.  I got a few text updates as she completed blocks.  She put in an even longer evening on Friday, and got back at it Saturday morning.  The text updates kept coming - it looked like I would be proven wrong.   I had the quilt in my hands around 3:00 pm  Saturday afternoon.  She knew wood grain was her quilting pattern of choice as I have done that on other Elizabeth Hartman patterns for her, so no decisions needed to me made.  Reneta had the quilt back after supper with enough time left to bind it and have a completed quilt show up at the shower the next day.  Never doubt a quilter on a mission!

Simply Serene

Sherry brought me this beautiful quilt.  Sherry added her own spin on the borders with some Seminole piecing, but the quilt pattern she began with is called "Simply Serene" by Pleasant Valley Creations.

Sherry has a real eye for fabric combinations and I just love the look of this quilt, although I am never drawn to these fabrics in a shop!

Sherry selected the "Come Dance with Me" pantograph and one of my favorite wide Stonehenge backings.  It suits the quilt so well!

Dog Gone Cute (With Kittens too)

This cute quilt was made by Reneta, Amy & Shalane and will be used as a Fundraising Raffle quilt for out local Humane Society. The ladies pooled their time, talents and fabrics and knowing them, I'm sure a lot of fun was had along the way.

The ladies combined two blocks from two favorite designers to come up with their unique design.

The cat blocks are from the pattern "The Kittens" by Elizabeth Hartman.

I love the variety of fabrics included, especially this "Blueberry Cat."

The ladies' request for me was to quilt  paw prints on the quilt top.  They offered to get a paw print pantograph, but I thought a could add them freehand instead.  I decided to quilt a few paw print paths across the top and fill in the rest with some modern wavy lines.

We added the grey Northcott Essentials wide backing to compliment the modern feel.

I think we are all pleased the with end result.  Looking at this quilt makes me smile.

Reneta's Pixelated Hearts

Reneta loves to make quilts with her scraps and they always turn out beautiful.  The solid black background sure makes for a dramatic quilt.

Reneta selected one of my newer pantographs called "Pieces of My Heart."  I think it really complements the quilt, and has a lovely texture.

Reneta provided the grey flannel backing and we used a layer of Quilter's Dream Midnight Black Poly for the batting.
