Jumbo Spiders

These Jumbo Spider quilts were made by Andrea.  The pattern is from Pen and Paper patterns and is the bonus included in the Spider Quilt Pattern.  Andrea indeed made 4 quilts - 2 for her children and two for her niece and nephew!

The fabrics on the fronts of all quilts are from the Speckled line from Ruby Star Society.  I thought the Gossamer pantograph seemed like perfect fit and Andrea agreed.

Andrea splurged on some fabulous fabric for the backs from the Spooky and Sweet and  Spooky and Sweeter lines from Art Gallery Fabrics.

I fell in love with these fabrics so treated myself to a Fat Quarter bundle before they were history!

My Canada Home Quarter

Lorraine made this lovely version of the Highway 10 Designs' Home Quarter quilt from a kit she purchased at Keystone Modern Creative.  The fabrics are from Northcott's "My Canada" line.

Lorraine selected the Maple Syrup Pantograph for a very fitting finish.

If you have a fat quarter bundle lying around, Home Quarter is a great pattern.  The large pieces let you enjoy the fabrics you fell in love with, and it is easy to manage directional prints as well.  Sizes from lap to king are included.

Catch up quilt parade

Time to empty out my camera roll and share some of the lovely quilts that passed through my studio recently!  This first baby quilt was sent by Shalane. I had quilted a larger version of this quilt for Shalane earlier in the year, and she requested the same Gingersnap pantograph for this one as well.  I just love the plum fireside backing on this one!

Next up is Reneta's baby size version of Art East Quilt Company's "Reconnection" quilt.  The cute little animals and the autumn palette led me to  suggest the Oak Breeze pantograph.  I love the movement of this pantograph.

I also quilted a couple of shop sample for Keystone Modern Creative in Winnipeg.  The first is the Flower Tile Quilt which is available as a kit featuring Dot Necessities from Banyan Batiks.  Leslie used some happy yellow Fireside fabric for the backing.  The Gingersnap pantograph seemed like the perfect compliment to the feature fabrics.

Last but not least is the Jelly Rainbow quilt featuring the Speckled fabric collection from Ruby Star Society.  This is also available as a kit from Keystone Modern Creative.

I used the Calder pantograph and some coppery coloured Magnifico thread that matched some of the metallic speckles on the fabrics.

Susan's Diamonds

Susan made this quilt in a class a number of years ago.  The rich Asian inspired fabrics has a lot of gold accents, so as soon as I saw it I knew what my first quilting suggestion would be.  I did send Susan a few options, but she was totally on board with the Ginseng pantograph and shiny Magnifico thread in my favorite gold - 2063 - Clover Honey.

Dianne's Quick Quarter

Dianne made this dramatic bargello style quilt.  The pattern is called "Quick Quarters" and is from the Eleanor Burns book called "Quick Trip Quilts".

Dianne normally rents time on a longarm and does her own quilting, but this time out she was happy to pass the King Size (102 x 115) off to me.

Dianne selected the Windswept pantograph, and the extra wide Quilter's Dream Blend batting.  I think I surprised Dianne with the thread options I presented.  She loved how So Fine 512 - Medici which is a lovely green-gold color than blend nicely across all the colours in the quilt.

Dianne supplied a lovely Northcott wide backing from the Dream Weaver line.

Cindy's Landmark Quilt

Cindy made this neutral and modern version of the Landmark Quilt by The Blanket Statement.  Cindy selected the Arrowful pantograph and I love the little bit of movement it adds.  We opted for a cream colored thread that blended into the background to not distract from the pattern.  The quilting always shows up so wonderfully on the cozy fireside backing.

I tried a new photo location in town that I hadn't really checked out before.  We also used a new tool....

This is Nolan, the quilt husband/quilt holder who never complains, even when conditions are less than optimal.

I saw this idea somewhere online (I wish I remember who to credit) of adding clamps to some sticks to assist in quilt holding.  I showed it to Nolan and he made his own version.  I believe the original used duct tape, but Nolan opted for a screw and some artificial sinew to lash the clamps on the sticks to create his "arm extensions.'

This lovely mural was located in the wind tunnel created by two buildings...I'll show you the not so glamourous behind the scenes.  Let's set sail....

Let's wait out this gust for a bit....

Almost.... his reach is greatly increased with the new tool  - this quilt was about 80" x 98"!

Victory!
