Bonny's Star Quilt

This fresh quilt was made by Bonny for her daughter.  One focal fabric with some beautiful coordinating tone-on-tones and solids sure do make for a lovely quilt.

I would say that about half of my clients make quilt design decisions over email and/or text and half visit my studio and we come up with a plan in person. (Covid did increase the need for distant consultations this spring though!)  I am glad Bonny was able to bring this quilt in person as she made a much bolder thread choice than I would have suggested through photos, but I love the end result!

Bonny chose the Raindrops pantograph, one of my Northcott wide backings and a peachy brown thread.  The thread that looked like it matched the peach fabric when on the cone looked almost white on the solid blue sashing.  When I pulled out some darker options we found just the right one.  So Fine #417 called Antique Rose.  Auditioning odd threads sometimes results in the perfect fit!

Holly Taylor Summer Nights and Northern Lights

Margaret brought this lovely quilt that was made from Holly Taylor's Summer Nights and Northern Lights fabric line.   I think it would be fair to say, that like a fine wine, this fabric was given a bit of time to mature in her stash...   Margaret just purchased a new waterfront home and this quilt is going to be for one of the bunkhouses on the property.

Margaret used the panel elements and coordinating yardage to come up with this beautiful quilt.

To coordinate with the lovely maple leaf print, Margaret chose the Maple Syrup pantograph.

I used a light green thread on the front and a dark plum thread on the back.

Winter Solstice

This lovely quilt was made by Reneta.  The pattern is called Winter Solstice by Patti Carey.  Reneta had the staff at Road 17N in Winkler put together a kit for her that very closely resembles the cover of the pattern.

Reneta chose the Breath of the gods pantograph that feels like a gentle wind moving through the trees.

I'm sure the lucky graduate will be thrilled to be receiving this one!

Hugs and Kisses

This darling quilt was made by Sherry.  She told me that she combined a few ideas that she had saved from different magazines over the years.

Sherry decided on a panto that was fairly new to my collection that I hadn't yet had the opportunity to stitch out.  It is called Knit 1 Purl 2, and I really love how it looks on the quilt.

I used a beautiful grayed purple So Fine thread #502 called Milan Mauve.  It blended nicely on the grey border and didn't detract from the purple applique.

Such a sweet little quilt!

Sherry's Fancy Foxes

Sherry sent this fantastic little quilt that she made with the fox blocks from Elizabeth Hartman's Fancy Fox pattern.   As with most of the of the fox quilts that have come into my studio the request was for my freehand woodgrain quilting.

I love how inventive Sherry was with the layout.  Sherry has also wowed me with her ability to mix and match unexpected fabrics effortlessly.  It is a bit hard to see in the photos, but the grey background fabric is a botanical print..  There are larger leaves at the top and smaller denser leaves at the bottom. Inserting the band of foxes in just the right location was inspired!

Sherry chose one of my wide backings from Northoctt, a grey leafy print that tied in very nicely.

Sometimes I wish these lovely quilts come stay and live with me!

A Pair of Bjorn Bear Quilts

Reneta used Elizabeth Hartman's Bjorn Bear pattern  and adapted it to make these two sweet baby quilts.  She requested my freehand woodgrain pattern and I think they turned out just great.  Reneta requested that I quilt over the appliqued name as well.

Glorious and Free

I was very lucky to get the opportunity to have some free motion fun on this fabulous quilt made by Gail.  The pattern is Glorious and Free by Quilter on Fire.  Gail adapted the pattern slightly to make it fit her size requirements.

I knew the maple leaf needed to be the star of the show so I used a curls for the veins.

The remaining red section got a complimentary curling design, and the blue background got a wood grain design.  Horizontal "wind" fill in the white and to top it all off a nice leafy feather in the outside border.

The blue minkee backing really shows of the quilting very nicely. We used Quilters Dream Puff batting and threads that matched each of the fabric colors.

Amy's Home Quarter

This fabulous lap quilt was made by Amy.  The pattern is Home Quarter by Highway 10 Designs.  I tell you it never gets old quilting a top made from a pattern I was a part of writing!

Amy said the fabric was a pretty Fat Quarter bundle she picked up at Fabriculous, that had been sitting on a shelf tied with a pretty ribbon awhile.  She added a pretty purple linen for the outer border.  Amy was hoping I would have a backing that would work, and my last piece of this beige and caramel Stonehenge was the perfect size and match.

Amy selected the wildflower pantograph and Quilter's Dream Blend batting.

This fat quarter friendly pattern comes together very quickly and comes with 6 size options in the pattern.  It is available as a pdf download or in paper version on our website.
