Parasols

This lovely quilt was made by Barb.  It is a fun variation of a Dresden Plate quilt, with the spokes being totally pieced instead of appliqued to the background.  The pattern is called Parasols by Geta's Quilt Studio.

Barb chose the Gingersnap pantograph and a dusty pink thread for the quilting.  I love the paisley backing fabric that she found that has all of the colors from the front of the quilt.

I hope the weather outside starts feeling as springy as this quilt soon!

 

Patrice's String Quilt and 2 more

 

Patrice brought three quilts that she made to donate to her favorite charity including this lovely string quilt.

Patrice requested the Quilter's Dream Puff batting for this one as the top was quite heavy because the the fabric foundation the blocks were pieced on.  She selected the Popcorn pantograph and we decided that this was the perfect opportunity to use a fun yellow thread.

The quilting show up great on the yellow and white striped sheet Patrice used for the backing.

The other two quilts were flannels in a Canadian theme.  We decided on the Calder pantograph for both of these.

 

Vintage Bow

Barb brought this very unique quilt for some custom quilting.  The top was made by Barb's friend Anne who has passed away, leaving many beautiful tops that weren't finished.  Barb said she was going to keep this for herself as special memory of her dear friend.

The flowers in the center and the bow were all immaculately hand appliqued.  When Barb  first showed me the top I have to admit I was a bit overwhelmed by all of the open white fabric.  I had to sit with this for awhile before the right quilting plan came to me. 

The center flowers were the easiest part to figure out.  I stitched around the applique and added a stipple to the background.

For the border behind the bow, Barb I decided that the beadboard detail would work nicely behind the bow and in the open sections.  I feathery design would have be hard to keep flowing nicely around the parts of the bow.

The large triangles and the border had me stumped for a long time.  I originally started doodling different types of feathers, but the amount of feathers required to fill an 8" border seemed to overwhelm the flowers.  the white on white prints in the background all contained flowers so that led me to flipping through my books and saved photos for some inspiration.

The flowers, leaves and curls were able to fill the large areas but still leave a light and pretty feeling to the overall quilt.  It is always an honor to be trusted with someone's quilt top and this was no exception.

 

Slideshow

The darling quilt was made by Janice for her granddaughter.  The pattern is called Slide Show by Atkinson Designs.  Janice put this lovely collection of fabrics together with the help of  Jennifer at Needle Crafts and Studio in Beausejour.

Janice selected the Popcorn pantograph and a pretty peach thread for the quilting.  We used the Quilter's Dream Puff batting for some nice loft.

Danish Star Fling

The Star Fling quilt was made by Reneta.  One of the exchange students that is staying with her this year gave her a Fat Quarter Bundle of Danish fabrics.  Reneta paired those fabrics up with some bold blenders from here in Canada to come up with this unique collection of fabrics.

Reneta chose the Sweet Pea pantograph and we decided to use a medium yellow thread for the quilting.

Diane's Favorite Fabric Quilt

Have you ever loved a fabric so much that you designed a whole quilt around showcasing it?  That is exactly what Diane did.    This flower and butterfly print called to her and she came up with a lovely way to highlight it,

Diane chose the blue Crackle wide backing that I had on hand and asked me to pick a floral pantograph.  I thought the Lilac pantograph complimented the top very nicely.

 

Red Pandas

This absolutely adorable Red Panda quilt was made by Reneta.  This is a new release from Art East Pattern Company and Reneta was one of the testers for this pattern.  

Before Reneta even had this top together she asked if there was a bamboo pantograph out there that might work on this quilt.  A quick search of the Urban Elementz site led me to the Bamboo design by Patricia E. Ritter. It was exactly what Reneta had in mind and I had plenty of time to order it in.

Thread choice can be challenging on quilts with contrasting colors, but a green thread that matched the green plants in the piecing blended nicely across the quilt.

Seriously, how cute is this quilt?
