Cookie Cutter

I recently had the pleasure of quilting this gorgeous quilt for Leslie at Keystone Modern Creative.  The pattern is called Cookie Cutter by Jaybird Quilts and the fabric is Pedal Pusher by Camelot fabrics.  This quilt has such a different feel than the original cover design that features a white background with rainbow colours.

Leslie let me pick the quilting design, but I did check to make sure she was okay with feathers!

I used a bead board design on the outer border to frame the quilt.

The coloured diamond got continuous curves and a twirling feather motif filled the center.

Last but not least I had lots of fun filling the background with flowing feathers.

It was hard to say goodbye to this one - I just loved the whole thing!

Home Quarter by Highway 10 Designs

It is always an exciting day when we release a new pattern into the world! The latest pattern from Highway 10 Designs is called Home Quarter and is available as a pdf download or a paper copy today.  It is fat quarter friendly and the pattern includes instructions for 6 sizes ranging from lap to king. It is suitable for beginners to experienced quilters alike.

So far we have made Home Quarter in the three colorways you see above and I'll share a little more about each of them.

Our cover quilt is the large lap size was made from a line of fabrics called Winter Garden by Lewis and Irene.

Kathy quilted this one with a pantograph in the center and a freehand custom leaf border treatment.

Our second example has a totally different feel and is made from batiks I collected from different booths at a quilt show two years ago.  Greys, blues and pink melt together to form the version of Home Quarter in the twin size,

It was quilted with a pantograph called Oasis.

Have you ever purchased a fat quarter bundle at a quilt shop because you absolutely love the collection but then didn't know what to do with it when you got home?  Home Quarter can be just the right solution, and Kathy's example proves it.  This quilt was made from Moda's "Sunday Supper" line that Kathy brought home with her one day.  The pattern has instructions to help you include directional fabrics successfully and those large rectangles let you enjoy the prints you fell in love with initially!

We hope you like our newest offering.  Visit our Etsy store or ask your local quilt shop about bringing it in for you. Inquiries can be directed to highway10designs@mymts.net.

Remembrance Poppy

Lynn brought me this lovely "Remembrance Poppy" quilt.  The pattern is by Pam Bono Designs.  Lynn asked for custom quilting and I tried to keep a reasonably light hand to the quilting.  The challenging part of quilting this one was figuring our how to handle all the odd shapes in the borders and the background.

I decided to add some feathers in the yellow sections.  I added simple lines to enhance the poppies and leaves and filled the backgrounds with stipples and the outer border with some curls.

Even with dark green and red threads, my tension was playing nice and I was able to use a cream colored thread for the bobbin throughout the entire quilt.

I am very pleased with the end result and Lynn's face when she saw it for the first time told me she was too!

Minnesota Stars & more!

I am excited to report that something new landed in the Highway 10 Designs Etsy shop!  Our pattern called "Minnesota Stars" is now available for purchase as a PDF download.  We originally designed this pattern for the Minnesota Shop Hop Northwest Region, but now we are pleased to make it available to everyone.

This pattern makes a nice sized lap quilt and can be a great stash buster.  (Many of the fabrics only require 1/2 yard or less of fabric!)

This pattern is much more traditional than most of our patterns, but sometimes we like to surprise you!

And if you don't like a dark background here is a mock up with a light background instead.  If you are interested in this pattern you can follow this link.

Also happening right now in our Etsy store is a finished quilt sale!  Kathy decided her cupboards were getting too full, and decided to part with some of her Highway 10 Designs samples.

Yes, all of the beauties are up for grabs too!
