Quilts for Grandsons

Marlene made these two wonderful quilts for her grandsons.  She made them Christmas quilts with Fireside backing a couple of years ago and they always want to use them early in the fall and well into the new year much to their mom's dismay.  So Marlene made new neutral quilts with the cozy backing they love so much.

The first quilt is called Nuts and Bolts and Marlene found it in the 2006 Spring/Summer edition of Quilt Sampler Magazine.

Marlene selected the Gatsby pantograph for this one.

The second one is a pattern called Square Dance by Gigi's Thimble.  Marlene selected the Calder pantograph.  I like how the quilts are similar and coordinated but still unique.

Reneta's Ornaments

This is Reneta's Ornament quilt.  Reneta was part of two block swap groups last year.  She loved making ornament blocks for me so much  (See my quilt in my previous post), that she decided to request those blocks from her second swap group.   It is amazing how the light and dark backgrounds change the look of the quilts.

Reneta used friendship stars in her sashing which are very sweet.  I added the Advent pantograph consisting of Christmas trees and stars.  I used a shiny gold thread to add a little pop in the quilting.

So many fun fussy cut centres to enjoy!

My Christmas Ornament Quilt

I am excited to share a quilt that belongs to me!  I participated in a "Queen Bee" block swap with some friends this year.  There were 9 in our group.  Everyone was assigned a month to be "Queen."  My month was February.  Ahead of your month you select a block pattern and send it to the other participants and they make 2 blocks with the colors or other details you specified.  When it is your month,  you wait for the happy mail to start arriving!

I selected this 12" Ornament block from Heather at The Sewing Loft blog, and sent everyone the Ruby Star Society Pine Speckled background fabric. I asked them to fussy cut something from their Christmas fabrics for the center.  (I am really glad I fully made a sample as there was an error in the pattern that I could correct before having everyone start on their blocks.)

I decided to add the eight pointed star sashing and added a thin gold border to tie it all together.

I selected the Gingersnap pantograph and used my favorite gold thread - Magnifico 2063 - Clover honey to add even more sparkle and shine to the quilt.

Here are some close ups of the fabulous fussy cut centres that everyone chose especially for me.  I feel pretty lucky to have such great quilty friends!

Dinorama T-rex on Roller Skates

I had so much fun adding a little custom quilting to Cindy's Dinorama quilt.  The pattern is fun design from Art Eat Quilting Co.

Cindy and I couldn't find a pantograph that we really liked so Cindy gave me the go ahead for some custom quilting.  I can honestly say I haven't quilted reptile skin before!

I stitched in the ditch around the dinosaurs and the features like their eyes and teeth.

The topographical freehand pattern seemed like the perfect idea for the linen background.

Our Hearts Will Go On

Kristine made this stunning version of the Our Hearts Will Go On quilt.  I have quilted a few of these and I am still impressed with this creative take on a classic Storm at Sea block.

Kristine selected the Breath of the gods pantograph, as she didn't want anything too tight for the quilting.

Kristine selected one of my Northcott Stonehenge wide backs that paired well with the Northcott Shimmer fabric that comprised the front.

Yet another quilt that could have easily stayed and lived with me!
