Welcome to my my first blog post. I have always said that "someday" I would like to own a longarm quilting machine. It really wasn't a possibility until recently as our old house just did not have space for one. Our new home came with two rec rooms in the basement. We really didn't need two rec rooms, so I claimed one for my sewing room. We have completed a tonne of renovations to the main floor of our house, (and therefore stopped using my sewing room as a temporary dining room) so dreams of a longarm machine surfaced again. Well, I am happy to report that "someday" is here. Last week I ordered an INNOVA longarm quilting machine!!! I don't have confirmation of delivery yet, but it may be here as early as next week! I am beyond excited about the whole thing. I plan to chronicle my journey here and hope you will check back in on me.
While I wait for delivery of my big new toy, I thought I should get piecing so that I have something ready to practice on. Back in November I was the lucky winner of a prize bundle from the Quiltmaker 100 Blocks Blog Tour. I received patterns, a copy of the magazine as well as all of these fat quarters from RJR Fabrics.
The line is called "Silly Suggestions for Kids". I received two panels, 10 regular fat quarters and 2 fat quarter border prints (Always find those a little tricky to use!) I'm not sure exactly what I will turn this into, but I should be able to get two cute baby quilts made using the panels and the coordinating fabric in some sort of pieced border. It will be interesting to see what I come up with.
Thanks for stopping in.

Welcome to the world of blogging my friend!
ReplyDeleteI am so excited that your finally getting your longarm, now that means we need to plan a road trip to a major quilt show to take some classes together :)
Congrats, friend, I am so proud of you. I knew you would eventually take that step. Hope you have hours of fun working (playing) with your new toy. Have a great summer. Robin
ReplyDeleteI wish I had chronicled my start when I got my long arm. The best advice I was given as I waited for my machine to arrive (which was two months as it had to be shipped out by sea), was to expect to be frustrated as you work through the learning curve i.e. don’t be too hard on yourself as you build up your new skill set. This was good advice, and once I started to get a handle on how it worked, I can say getting a long arm was one of the best decisions I ever made. Good luck with your new venture (or adventure)!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Lori. Both on the launching of your blog and the newest acquistion. It was just a matter of time. Have fun. I am sure you will get lots of valuable advice as you explore with the longarm.
