Gypsy Wife

This stunning Gypsy Wife quilt was sent to me by Linda for some custom quilting.  As Linda was putting this top together she spent time looking at how others had quilted their Gypsy Wife quilts, and she developed a clear idea of how she wanted hers quilted.

Linda requested simple quilting that highlighted the piecing, mostly stitch in the ditch work, with some added quilting motifs in the larger areas to soften them.

Linda sent some lovely wool batting for the quilt, and it really added definition to the quilting.  Sometimes stitch in the ditch is a lot of work for little visual impact but not this time.  In the case the wool batting was totally worth the splurge!

The entire top was quilted with grey 100 wt. Microquilter thread, and an orange Bottom Line thread in the bottom to blend with the yellow and red backing fabrics.

I know I will never piece my own Gyspy Wife quilt so it was a real treat to have such a beautiful one visit my studio for a short time.
