Val's Scrappy Squares

Val brought this great scrappy quilt that was a Christmas gift for special family members.   It is a generous queen size.

Val chose the Cassava pantograph which adds a soft finish to the quilt.

Val told me she was running out of her background fabric, so when it came time to do the final border she got creative and added some extra piecing to make it work.

Tina's Postcards from Sweden

 

Tina made this cheerful Postcards From Sweden quilt for a friend.  The pattern is by Kelly Liddle for Jelli Quilts and uses 36 different fabric colours.

Tina selected the Canva pantograph and a bright yellow thread that matches her binding fabric.  I have pictures of the quilt complete with binding because Tina opted to have the binding added by my associate Marion.

A super cozy Cuddletex backing in a pretty teal color tied the whole thing together perfectly.

Karen's Pansy Quilt

Karen brought this lovely medallion quilt.  She said she bought it as a kit at a quilt show on a whim.  The fabric collection is not a current one, but is called Accent on Pansies by Jackie Robinson of Animas Quilts for Benartex.    

Karen mostly followed the pattern but did substitute some blocks for ones she wasn't particularly fond of.  The center design really sits nicely on my queen size bed.

Karen chose the Cassava pantograph which is a little feathery and a little leafy but not specifically one thing.

Karen usually adds a little something to her quilts backs.  This time is was some strips of leftover fabric which adds a nice amount of interest.

Eileen's Building Blocks

 

This lovely sampler quilt was made by Eileen.  The blocks were made using the new book called Building Blocks from Melissa Marginet.  The book has an innovative technique for making the blocks that involves no trimmed corners.

Eileen enjoyed playing around with all the different options in building her blocks. And the end result is many variations that are pleasing.

Eileen selected the Cassava pantograph which finishes things off with a nice light flowing touch.

Eileen is happy to report that she did not buy any new fabric for either the top of back of this quilt.  She instead visited her "Fabric Pantry" and used a couple of fabrics in the top that were waiting around for just the right project.  For the backing she used some leftover chunks of wide backing that were left over from past quilts.

Metro Twist

This bright and cheerful quilt was made by Audrey.  The fabric collection is called Grand Canal and was designed by Kate Spain for Moda.

The pattern is called Metro Twist from Sew Kind of Wonderful.  Audrey selected the Cassava pantograph and we selected a muted green thread - So Fine 511 - Florentino which blended nicely across the navy and the prints.

I love the fun yellow backing and I used a matching yellow Bottom Line thread on the back.

 

Postcards from Sweden

This quilt just radiates joy.  It was made as a shop sample at Keystone Modern Creative and kits are available containing the Kona cottons suggested in the pattern.   The pattern is called Postcards from Sweden by Jeli Quilts and is free download.

Leslie selected the Cassava pantograph and supplied some beautiful Quilters Dream Select cotton batting and a plum Fireside backing.  What thread color to use?  We decided to have some fun and use a hot pink!

Positively Bohemian

This striking quilt was made by Donna.  The pattern is called Positively Bohemian by Robin Pickens.  It features the Dandi Annie fabric collection by Robin for Moda.

Donna chose the Cassava pantograph that is somewhere between looking like a feather and flower.  She found the perfect colour of Fireside backing to bring the whole project together.

This second quilt is just pretty in pink!  Donna selected the Gingersnap pantograph as it seemed to fit with the circle patterns in the fabric.

And a lovely pink Fireside to continue the theme.

Petal Junction in Lilliput

I made this version of our Highway 10 Designs "Petal Junction" pattern for a special couple that got married during the height of Covid restrictions but just had their "Happily Ever After" party.  The fabrics are from the Lilliput collection from Sharon Holland for Art Gallery Fabrics.  I loved the strawberries, frogs and other animals in the prints and hoped the bride would too.

I opted for the more scrappy background and used a number of fat quarters from the Art Gallery Ballerina Fusion Collection. I liked the interesting shades of dusty pink. I love how the large pieces in the Petal Junction pattern allow you to enjoy the prints in a collection.

I used the Cassava pantograph and a dusty pink thread for the quilting.

The backing was one of the prints from the collection as well.

When making the Petal Junction quilt top, the instructions encourage you to make all the bonus HST as you go and use them in another project.  I made the HSTs and by adding a few more from the leftover bits of fabric I was able to make this scrappy table topper/doggie quilt. 

 I added a scrappy binding to this one after quilting it with my freehand topographical meander.

Petal Junction works great with either Fat Quarter or Half yard cuts and a scrappy or solid background fabric.
