Amy's Alternate Routes

This is Amy's bold and beautiful version of the Highway 10 Designs Alternate Routes pattern.  Her fabrics have such great contrast that all of the hard work she did making lots and lots of HST really stands out!

When this quilt arrived in my studio there was a note attached asking if I had any backing fabric on hand that might work.  Lo and behold my bolt of blue Crackle wide backing from Northoctt matched perfectly!  I have a small selection of wide backs on hand to make it easy for my customers if they are stuck for a backing because their "local quilt store" is a two hour drive or more.

Amy selected the Ripples pantograph and it adds a nice texture without taking away from the piecing.

The Alternate Routes pattern is a fun pattern for a group of friends to sew as the pattern contains 20 different layout options, no two quilts need to be the same.  You can find it here.

 

Deep Dive

Reneta made this "Deep Dive" quilt as part of Art East Quilt Company's mystery sew along for 2020/2021.  

Reneta's choice of the metallic ombre dot fabric for the creatures makes for such a happy and fun quilt.  I'm not sure which block is my favorite.  Reneta selected the Curl and Swirl pantogrpah that has just the right vibe for this one.

I love the message she added to the bottle!

 

Preppy Pod

This is Reneta's version of the Preppy Pod quilt by Elizabeth Hartman.  The pattern offers two sizes and Reneta opted for the larger size.

Reneta's daughter called dibs on the this quilt and she selected the Ebb and Flow pantograph - a perfect fit!

 

Alice's Garden

This lovely earthy quilt was made by Amy.  The pattern is called Alice's Garden from Down Grapevine Lane.  Amy used a wonderful fabric collection called Homebody by Maureen Cracknell for Art Gallery Fabrics.

  

Amy selected one of my newer pantographs called "Calder" and I think it compliments the pattern very nicely.

 

Tula Pink Basics Crazy Quilt

Leslie from Keystone Modern Creative made this happy quilt using Lori Holt Crazy Quilt papers and fabric from the Tula Pink basics line.  The quilt papers are 10" square so perfect to use with a layer cake!

Leslie left the quilting choice up to me for this shop sample, I instantly thought of the the Flirtatious pantograph, and added a shiny lilac Magnifico thread.

I love the border and backings that Leslie selected from the collection.

 

Windy Hill Farm

I had the pleasure of being in on a secret while working on the fabulous quilt for Audrey.  The quilt was a surprise gift for Audrey's daughter Megan who is also one of my quilting clients (see previous post)    Audrey appliqued and pieced the entire project without Megan catching on which involved a lot of extra stash hiding, garbage emptying, sewing room tidying and sweeping the are of stray threads so Megan wouldn't ask any questions!

The pattern is called Windy Hill Farm from the Red Boot Quilt Company.  Audrey requested custom quilting but left the choices up to me.  I outlined the large applique pieces and added a variety of background fills behind all of the different animals.  I think the little daisy fill behind the sheep might be my favorite!

This fun yellow check print was the perfect compliment on the back!

Watch Me Grow

Megan sent this adorable quilt that she made for her own new arrival.   The centre is a panel and Megan came up with her own pieced border to complete the quilt top.  The panel is called "Watch Me Grow" from Northcott fabrics, and is intended to be used for milestone photos.  The panel came with other items including words and numbers that you can add to the photos.

Megan knew she wanted custom quilting including modern feathers and we discussed a few different plans before settling on the design.  I wanted to make sure that the quilting didn't overwhelm the delicate nature of the panel that was so appealing.

 

I enhanced the printed wreath with additional quilted feathers, outlined the animals and crosshatched the background.  

  

 

The border received piano keys and some continuous curves and stitch in the ditch around the blocks.

I also love the sweet backing fabric Megan selected from the same collection.
