Shelly's T-shirt quilt

This quilt from Shelly is a real labour of love.  She made this for her daughter Zoe out her most loved T-shirts and sweatshirts.

The shirts represent a wide range of interests - water polo, school musicals, travel, concerts, the Faculty of Architecture and work experiences.

Shelly puzzled all these treasures together and brought it over for some sweet quilting. She added a cozy grey flannel backing and chose the Pieces of My Heart which really felt like a perfect fit.

Good job Shelly, I'm sure this will be treasured.

 

Around the Island 3

This is Reneta's latest variation on the Around the Island quilt from The Quilted Stash.  You can see the two other versions here and here.  They are some of my favorite projects of all time.  And if you aren't familiar and are wondering what island - that is Newfoundland, Canada.

Reneta made this as a gift for a friend and the request was to keep the quilting quite simple.  The Love Those Curls Pantograph was the perfect choice.

 

Swallows

Nancy made this lovely quilt as a present for her grandson.  Her husband really liked the top when it was done and thought it would have been nice for them to have.  She thought he was going to like it even more now that it is quilted.

The pattern is called Swallows and features the Moda Yukata fabric collection both by Debbie Maddy.

Nancy selected the Mimosa pantograph.  It adds some nice movement and keeps the quilt feeling more masculine.

Rose Anne's Mystery Quilt

Rose Anne made this top as part of a mystery project with her local quilting group.  I think this turned out extremely nicely considering she didn't know exactly what she was in for when selecting the fabrics.

The Raindrops pantograph was a nice choice to keep things clean and simple.

Rose Anne decided to take things up a notch and make the quilt truly reversible. This is the beautiful back. I did my best to center things, but it is not something you can really guarantee when loading things on the longarm frame  Rose Anne planned for a generous green border on the backing which really helped to camouflage any slight off centeredness of the backing.

Happy Stripes

Kris dug into her fabric stash and pulled together a fantastic Christmas quilt for herself.  The addition of the Ruby Star Hole Punch Dot Fabric in metallic gold really made it all shine. The pattern is called Happy Stripes by Quilty Love. 

Kris selected the Fascination pantograph and my favorite gold thread - Superior's Magnifico in 2063 Clover Honey.

The pattern included suggestions on how to use the cut off corner pieces, and Kris made a fun pieced backing out one of the ideas.

 

Humble and Heartfelt

Judy brought this stunning quilt.  The pattern is called Humble and Heartfelt by Kim Diehl.  The fabrics are from the Gratitude and Grace collection from Henry Glass fabrics.

Judy selected the Feathered Curls pantograph.  I don't use this pantograph all that often, but it really felt like the perfect fit for this quilt.

Judy treated herself to more fabric from the collection for the backing which really completes it perfectly.

Lexie Hoodie

I am very excited to say I made myself a quilted hoodie!  When I saw the pattern for the Lexie Hoodie just before Christmas I knew I wanted to try my hand at making one.  So glad Santa and an elf figured out how to get one in my hands.

The pattern is from Australian designer Melly and Me.  It is drafted to work with the non-stretchy nature of quilted fabric.  It has very easy construction techniques that would be approachable even if you haven't sewn any garments before.  I found the sizing to be perfect if you went by the included measurement chart and didn't worry if it was labeled small, XL or 3X as those labels do not relate to any commercial sizing.

I have big plans to make a second one of these but for the first I pulled some fabric that I already had at home.  The stars are made from the Make collection from Kristy Lea of Quiet Play, and the background is from the Hush 3 collection all from Riley Blake.  I had just enough fabric in the one fat quarter of the stripe to get my bias binding cut out.  I enjoyed fussy cutting the motifs that first drew me to that fabric collection for the centers of the star.

I sewed the lining fabric together to test the fit before I cut into my quilted panels.  I decided to make a couple of adjustments to fit me better - I tapered the sleeves to reduce the wrist opening and I made the neckline about an 1" lower.  The pattern suggests either a thin batting layer or a piece of flannel.  I chose to use Hobbs Thermore batting as it has been recommended for garments for a very long time.

Abbey Gate and more

Marlene made this stunning quilt from her fabric stash.  The pattern is a Bonnie Hunter one called Abbey Gate.  You really have to love making HSTs to tackle this one!

Marlene selected the Sweet Pea pantograph which really compliments the pretty little prints in so many of the red and cream fabrics.

Marlene kept digging into her scrap stash and put together this 64 patch quilt.  All those squares finish at 1"!

The popcorn pantograph was a lovely way to finish this one.

Blue Beauty

Sandra made this lovely lap quilt in a really pretty blue color palette.

The Soho pantograph added some nice movement to the top and looks just fabulous on the cuddle backing fabric.

Sandra opted to utilize the binding service that my associate Marion offers and her fabric choice adds a nice bit of interest.
