Broken Wheel

Wanda made this Broken Wheel quilt.   The quilt was inspired by the border fabric that Wanda loves and was purchased for her by someone special.

Wanda selected the Gatsby pantograph.  It isn't a pantograph I get to use all that often, but I feel it suits this quilt just perfectly.

Wanda added this complimentary purple Woolies flannel on the back that is thick and luxurious - totally worth the splurge!

Two for Madeline

I had the pleasure of quilting 2 lovely lap quilts for Madeline.  The first is called Topsail by Quilt Cakes.

Madeline selected the Gatsby pantograph that has a bit of a modern geometric feel.

The second one is called Agnes by Penelope Handmade.

The Wildflower pantograph complimented the fabric prints and was just the perfect choice.

Striped Drunkard's Path

Mitzy brought this beachy feeling striped Drunkard's Path quilt.  It is made from a beautiful batik jelly roll that blends together ever so well.

Mitzy chose the Gatsby pantograph to pull the whole look together,.

Homecoming

Friends Shalane, Reneta and Amy worked together to make this lovely quilt for a coworker who is retiring.  The pattern is called Homecoming by Lo and Behold Stitchery.

The group was quick to agree on the Gatsby pantograph to finish this one off.  I think they made a great choice.  Choosing thread for quilts with high contrast is always a little nerve wracking.  I was very confident in the charcoal thread that was slightly lighter than the background until I took the first few stitches on the light peach.  I consulted the group and the assured me they were good with the choice.  In the end, when there is thread covering the entire quilt top, I love the choice and I know it was a good one, but I'm sure I have a few more grey hairs because of it!

Quilts for Grandsons

Marlene made these two wonderful quilts for her grandsons.  She made them Christmas quilts with Fireside backing a couple of years ago and they always want to use them early in the fall and well into the new year much to their mom's dismay.  So Marlene made new neutral quilts with the cozy backing they love so much.

The first quilt is called Nuts and Bolts and Marlene found it in the 2006 Spring/Summer edition of Quilt Sampler Magazine.

Marlene selected the Gatsby pantograph for this one.

The second one is a pattern called Square Dance by Gigi's Thimble.  Marlene selected the Calder pantograph.  I like how the quilts are similar and coordinated but still unique.

Slam Dunk!

Get ready to see not one, not two, but three versions of this fabulous Slam Dunk quilt.  Reneta was sewing up a storm this winter with Cluck Cluck Sew's Slam Dunk pattern to make two graduation gifts and a special thank you gift for her youngest son's long time coach.

You will notice these photos were taken in the winter and early spring when I did the quilting, but I didn't share the photos until the gifts were given.

The first of the three received some light custom quilting.  I followed the fabric design in the sashing, added a background stipple behind the balls, and only stitched on the black lines on the ball itself to make the orange part puff up.

The second one got the Gatsby pantograph and Reneta loved it so much that she requested the same treatment on the third on which was for her son.

BQ4

This is Vanda's take on the BQ4 pattern by Maple Island Quilts.  Vanda knew she wanted a modern geometric design for this one so opted for the Gatsby pantograph.

We used a dark taupe/brown thread to play nicely with all the fabrics.  It was So Fine! #458 - Lone Wolf.

Vanda utilized all her leftover pieces to makes a backing.  Once again she measured carefully and created a pieced backing that was as easy to work with as a solid piece of fabric.

Amy's Pedal to the Metal

Amy made this crisp version of Highway 10 Designs' Pedal to the Metal quilt.  It is the perfect "guy quilt" - crisp, clean, masculine and not too fussy.

To keep with the modern feel Amy selected the "Gatsby" panto and a charcoal grey Stonehenge wide backing.

If you need a quilt for a graduate, or a special guy in your life, check out Pedal to the Metal, is comes together in a snap and can be personalized with the colors of a favorite sports team or school. The pattern includes sizes to fit twin, double, queen or king beds.
