Sew Bright and Cheerful

Eileen made this fun scrappy sampler that she is calling "Sew Bright and Cheerful."  It started out as a Sew Along/Swap with the North Star Quilt Guild in Flin Flon in August of 2020 and was to last 8 months.

The only requirement was to use a light background for your blocks.  Instructions were quite open -make two 10.5" x 10.5" star themed blocks, make one 5.5" x 10.5" strip etc.

Blocks were to be swapped with other members at the monthly meetings, but with Covid and Eileen relocating from Flin Flon to Selkirk things did not go to plan.  After her blocks sat for a time, she decided to get them into a top.  She added a few extra blocks and a border to increase the size of the quilt.

Eileen enjoyed using up odds and ends of fabric from past projects, and this top is full of happy quilting memories.

Eileen suggested the Fluffy Clouds pantograph and it made for a lovely finish.  Eileen found this wide backing fabric in her stash.  It seemed so familiar to me, and it took me a minute to figure out why. I believe we both bought these batik wide backs at the Fabricland in Prince Albert on a trip from Flin Flin to Saskatoon for a quilt show 15+ years ago!  I used mine on the back of a bed quilt I used for years.

Puffin Baby Quilt

Reneta made the sweet personalized baby quilt for another special little one.  The puffin blocks are from the Art East Quilt Co. Nothin' Like A Puffin pattern.

The Fluffy clouds pantograph seemed like the perfect fit for this one.

2 for Roberta

Roberta brought two bold and beautiful quilts for quilting.  First up is Color Jolt by Sparkle Stash.

Roberta selected the Fluffy Clouds pantograph and I love the vibrant green Fireside that she chose for the back.

The second quilt is called Gemini by Villa Rosa Designs.  This one is beuatiful with Batiks on the front and the back.  I suggested that Roberta consider black batting for this one with the dark backing and black background.  She agreed and we used the Quilter's Dream Midnight poly that I always have on hand.

Roberta chose the Sweet Pea pantograph and we used an almost black thread.

Harmony & Quilt O'Clock

Shannon brought this lovely Harmony quilt and let me in on the fact that it was her first quilt.  I think she did an amazing job and and imagine there will be many more in her future.

Shannon selected the Fluffy Clouds pantograph for a lovely, but not too dense level of quilting.

I undertook a fun little project yesterday - a quilt clock!  The pattern and inspiration came from Holly at Holly Clarke Designs.   The free instructions and templates are available here - Quilt O'Clock

My kitchen clock fell and shattered a few weeks ago so I had the perfect place for this little project.  An inexpensive clock from Ikea and some fabric from a bundle that has just been waiting for the right project.

Garden Snails

This fun snail quilt belongs to Reneta.  The pattern is Garden Snails by Pen and Paper Patterns.

Reneta selected the Fluffy Clouds pantograph.

Most of the blocks were made as part of a block swap that Reneta and I participated in last year.  There are so many unique fabrics that were pulled from the participants stashes.

Penguin Party

I recently finished this sweet baby quilt for Eileen.  The pattern is Penguin Party by Elizabeth Hartman.

It is always a little bit scary to stitch over eyes on a quilt.  Eileen and I talked about me doing something freehand to avoid doing so, but ended up chossing a nice open pantograph called Fluffy Clouds.

Eileen had envisioned using one of my grey backs, but when we tried this green/blue Stonehenge fabric it felt perfect.

Sunrise

Dawn made this super cheerful quilt and it certainly brightened my day when I was working on it.  The pattern is called Sunrise and it was a kit from V and Co. fabrics.

Dawn decided on the Fluffy Clouds panto (in like 10 seconds flat!) and requested Dream Puff batting and it made for a very nice result.

In all the photos I took I put the yellow to the top of the quilt - I guess that is how my eye saw it.  Interestingly, the pattern show this quilt with the yellow at the bottom.  To each his own I guess!

Cindy's City Slicker

This is Cindy's version of our Highway 10 Designs - City Slicker Pattern. City Slicker is our jelly roll friendly pattern and  Cindy used Cantik Batik Gemstone 2 1/2" strips in the Northern Lights colorway.

Cindy  made this quilt for and with a some help from her 10 year old niece.  We settled on the Fluffy clouds panto, a shiny lilac Magnifico thread, and Quilter's Dream Puff batting to compliment the minkee dot backing fabric Cindy provided.

I really enjoyed working on this cheerful springy version of City Slicker.   Now we just need the last of the snow to melt away, and no more to fall!
