Just Add Shortcake

 

Shelly made this fantastic strawberry quilt.  The pattern is called Just add Shortcake by Wendy Shepherd.

The prints in the collection make me think of some fun vintage sheets.  The Lithe pantograph doesn't seem to get used all that often around here, but was a lovely compliment to this quilt.

It is always a nice surprise when you get to see the quilting on a solid backing.

Detour Table Set

In amongst all of the client quilts that filtered through my studio, I did manage to finish a Christmas gift for my mother and father in law.  They downsized into a new place over the summer and bought some new smaller furniture including a new kitchen table, so a set of placemats and table runner to match was a fun idea.

I chose one of our Highway 10 Designs patterns called Detour.  I found the fabrics at a quilt retreat when Oma's quilt shop was a vendor.  The main fabric is from the Northcott Stonehenge Surfaces collection with coordinates from Northcott basics collections.

I cut out the fabric and then had a little work bee with my husband and daughter to piece them.  (After all, their names were going on the gift so helping only seemed right.)  I pinned and organized, Kendra did all the sewing and Nolan did all the pressing.  Many hands make light work! As a group we selected the Lithe pantograph and then the rest was up to me for quilting and binding.

Petal Junction in From Far and Wide

 

This pretty version of our Highway 10 Designs Petal Junction quilt was made by Leslie at Keystone Modern Creative as a store sample.  Leslie chose to feature the "From Far and Wide " fabric collection by Kate and Birdie for Moda Fabrics.

The large blocks of the Petal Junction pattern allow you to see so much of the detail of the prints.  It works with Half Yard or Fat Quarter cuts 

Leslie chose the Lithe pantograph for the quilting and it shows up beautifully on the green Fireside backing.

Scrappy Trip Around the World and International Exchange Round #2

This is another beautiful quilt that Reneta has made from her scraps.  She followed Bonnie Hunter 's "Scrappy Trip Around the World" free pattern.    For this one Reneta dug into her scrap flannels.  It is amazing how all of the different theme fabrics work together in this format.  In this little section you can see pine cones, flowers, Noah's ark, trees, bugs, fish, plaid.....

All this quilt needed to finish it off was a nice even textured panto.  You can't see if too well on the front, but the Lithe panto is a very nice compliment to this quilt.

If you dig into your flannels and add this many seams, the quilt will feel quite heavy for its size!

March 1st meant it was time for the reveal of out second blocks in our International Exchange with our Australian friends.  The theme this time around was Dredens.  The only requirement was the the floral fabric was used somewhere in the block.  

This is the one I made.  I don't usually go quite so scrappy, and I was excited to find 20 different fabrics to use in the Dresden blades.  I used our focus fabric in the centre.  I had never tried doing a Dresden with points on both ends, so this was fun.

Deseley made this one. I always love when someone does something I could never dream up!

Kathy and I were once again on similar wavelengths!

And Bronwyn used a mix of curved and pointed blades in hers.

Dazzled

I had the pleasure of quilting this striking quilt for the Roblin Jewel Quilters.  It is their raffle quilt for this year and was made from a pattern called "Dazzled."  

I attended one of their meetings recently and introduced myself and my business and we had an opportunity to decide the quilting plan as a group.  In the end we decided on the "Lithe" pantograph as it added a nice texture to the quilt, and it complimented the prints of the chosen fabrics.  The piecing is the star of this quilt, and the more simple quilting was all that was required.  This quilt is a  generous 96" x 115" and the piecing job was stellar.  Someone is going to be very lucky to win this one!

Emily's Wedding Quilt

Connie brought me this wonderful scrappy quilt.  The pattern is Emily's Wedding Quilt by Fons and Porter.  Essentially it is made up of two traditional blocks  - Shoo Fly and 54-40  or Fight.

I love how curves appear out of all straight seams.  Connie left the quilting design up to me.  I debated about trying to come up with a custom quilting design that would enhance the circles or use a panto.  When considering the size of the quilt (100 x 100), the borderless design, its intended use and my online searches of how other similar quilts were treated, I decided that a panto was the best fit for this situation.

A white So Fine! thread disappeared into the 30s reproduction fabrics and white background.  The panto is called Lithe.

Lithe

This is Cheri's Hopstoch quilt that she made for her daughter's graduation.  We decided on a new panto in my collection called "Lithe".  It has a nice even texture and the design complimented the fabrics Cheri used really well.

Cheri made this quilt a little bigger than her original plan which meant she had to get a little creative to increase the size of the backing as well.  I love the added interest on the back!

When I was recently at Road 17N in Winkler I found some fabric that I just couldn't leave behind.

 I have had a bare window in my studio forever and thought it was time I fixed that problem!  Simple but I love my Night Owl curtains!
