Woven

Dawn made this lovely fresh and modern quilt.  The pattern is called Woven by Beyond the Reef.

When I texted Dawn with a variety of quilting ideas, she new exactly what she responded as she replied instantaneously!  The Bauhaus Baby Pantograph, Quilter's Dream Blend batting and a Northcott Essentials wide back in a lovely grey color were her choices.

Jelly Roll Race x 5

It have been a few weeks since I shared pictures of the quilts I have had the pleasure of working on.  I have quite the line up of things to catch up on!  First up is this stack of jelly roll race quilts that Tannis brought over.

These quilts were pieced by Tannis' children and nieces and nephews when they were at her house when the schools were not open in the spring.  What a great project!  Luckily Tannis had a stash of jelly rolls for everyone to pick from. All the quilts have a cozy minkee backing  and Quilters Dream Puff batting. Tannis left the quilting design choices up to me, and I decided that each one should be different.

Gingersnap Pantograph

Plush Pantograph

Popcorn Pantograph

Bora Bora Pantograph

Fascination Pantograph

Have fun with all that binding Tannis!

Baby Elephant Parade

How sweet are these two baby quilts? Reneta created her own layout with blocks from the pattern called Elephant Parade from Sew Fresh Quilts.

The first received the "Novaya Zhizn" pantograph.

And the second received the "Hall of Mirrors" pantograph.

Sherry's Embelished Home Quarter

Sherry used the Highway 10 Designs Home Quarter pattern for the basis of this quilt and took it up a notch by adding an applique panel.  My last two posts also contained Home Quarter quilts, and it still amazes me how much fabric choices change the look of a pattern.

Sherry sent a note along with the quilt suggesting an all over stipple for the quilting design and an outline around the applique.  I know Sherry quite well and I know that she prefers threads that blend, so I suggested treating the border and panel differently than the body of the quilt so I could use two different threads.

Sherry liked my suggestion of a bead board design in the borders and behind the applique with a medium stipple in the quilt body.  I love how it turned out.  It was fun to stipple a large part of the quilt as I don't get to do that often.

I love when quilters take a pattern and add their own twist to it.  Home Quarter is a fat quarter friendly pattern and is available as a pdf download or in paper format.

True North Home Quarter

Kristine made this lovely version of Home Quarter by Highway 10 Designs.  The fabric colleciton is called True North by Kate and Birdie for Moda.  I am looking forward to True North 2 that will be coming to quilt stores later this fall.

Kristine selected the Maple Syrup panto (Perfect right?) and red thread.  Choosing red is always a bit scary as it can sometimes be stronger than you want, but it just enhanced the top. She used a lovely grey flannel on the back and I used a grey thread in the bobbin to match.

Home Quarter is a fat quarter and beginner friendly pattern available as a PDF download or in paper format.

My Home Quarter

This is going to be a bit of a unique post.  I made this Home Quarter quilt top, but I did not do the longarm quilting!  I made this top at a Highway 10 Designs retreat earlier this year (remember quilting retreats?) that Kathy and I hosted at Keystone Modern Creative.  The fabric was a bundle of fat quarters in the Libbs Elliot Tattooed North line.  I didn't have a plan for the quilt so it went onto my "to be quilted" stack.

This spring I participated in a quilt-a-long and won a super generous prize of a $200 gift certificate for longarm quilting services donated by Shelly of Ma Tante Quilting in Minnedosa, MB.  This first question I was asked was "Did I want the prize?" as I was a longarm quilter myself.  My answer was an enthusiastic "Absolutely!"  I have followed Shelley on Instagram since she started and she does absolutely lovely work.  Shelly has a fully computerized machine and can do totally different things than I can as a hand guided quilter.

.  I liked the quilt top well enough, but it didn't come out quite like I thought it would in my head.  I thought some digital modern quilting might just be the thing to take it up a notch.  I knew I wanted a very detailed very geometric pattern.  I searched many pattern sites online and settled on this design from Karlee Porter called "Fancy Schmancy."  Parallel straight lines and perfect circles are the exact opposite of what I normally look for in a pantograph!

I decided that since the top was feeling a bit plain before it got quilted, I would add a surprising backing fabric for a little more interest.  This quilt needed more mustard than the few splashes on the top!

Shelly did a wonderful job scaling the pantograph to suit my quilt. I sent along Quilter's Dream Puff batting and I love the loft that the quilt has even after its dense quilting.   It was a fun experience sending my quilt off to have someone do something that was outside of my capabilities.

Home Quarter is available as a pdf download or in paper format on the Highway 10 Designs website.  You can also ask your favorite local quilt store to stock it for you.  This is the queen size version that uses 36 fat quarters.

Thanks Shelly for helping me get this out of my "to be quilted pile!"

Covered in Hope

Covered in Hope by nite owl quilting

Shelia brought this lovely quilt over for some custom quilting.  The pattern is called Covered in Hope by Nite Owl Quilting.  Shelia changed out one of the words to something that was more meaningful to her.

I stitched around all the applique and added a stipple background fill that seemed very fitting with her choice of background fabrics.

When we were discussing ideas for the border, Shelia mentioned that she could see Butterflies flying her and there.  I was happy to oblige.
