Hand Pieced Sampler

Delores started this, her one and only quilt in a class about 30 or so years ago.  It is entirely hand pieced!  The class unfortunately did not see the quilt to completion, so it has just been hanging around for a few decades.  Delores' friend Naomi couldn't bear to see it unfinished so she picked out some issues and got a border on and brought it over.

Naomi and I opted for the Feathered Garden pantograph a mauve thread that complimented the fabrics.   There might be some broadcloth and polyester blends in the quilt, but who cares? It quilted up beautifully and now is going to be gifted to Delores's grandughter.

Naomi brought Delores along to pick the quilt up so I was lucky to see her reaction to her finished quilt!

Marlene's Vintage Sampler

This beautiful sampler quilt was made by Marlene.  This is actually the first quilt that Marlene ever started.  She took a class from Marilyn Weibe in the late 1980s.  She was obviously an amazing teacher and Marlene was a good student as these blocks are perfection.  Oh, and the entire top was hand pieced!!

Marlene had begun the process of hand quilting this one, but other projects took priority and it never got finished. Maybe she lost motivation when she no longer lived in the house with the wall paper that matched the border fabric? So instead of letting it continue to languish in the closet, Marlene decided to remove all the hand quilting that she had done (gasp) and bring it to me for an edge to edge treatment.

Marlene chose the Feathered Garden pantograph which I think adds a lovely design element especially in the wide borders.

It is good to remember that it is okay to change original plan when making a quilt.  There is always more than one way to approach anything.  This was a really fun project for me to get to see up close!

Alice's Wonderland

Deann made this sweet quilt using blocks from the Alice's Wonderland Sampler Quilt Book by Alice Caroline.  The book contains 100 blocks, but Deanne decided that 49 blocks made a great quilt.

Deann used a lovely mix of old and new fabrics in the quilt.  Deann is a fairly new quilter, but her sister Eileen has enjoyed the hobby for years and has accumulated some fabric that Deann sometimes dips into.

Deann chose the Feathered Garden pantograph that adds a pretty finish.

I really love the Dear Stella Jardin print that Deann selected for the back too.

Catch up Post #1

So... it appears that I haven't shared any quilts since April!  I have in fact been quilting, but spent a lot of time enjoying my summer as well.  So time to share some of the wonderful things that have travelled through my studio in the last 5 months.

First up is the lovely BQ4 quilt that Marion brought.  Her niece fell in love with the black print and had Marion make it into a quilt for her.  The BQ patterns from Maple Island quilts are a great way to show off a larger scale print.

We used the Dragon's Breath pantograph which complimented come of the motifs in the focus print.

Elaine made this sweet Layer Cake Links quilt.  The free pattern is available here from the Fat Quarter shop.   She selected the Pieces of My Heart pantograph for a lovely finish.

Jukipa brought this pretty quilt made from a collection of Tilda fabrics.

She selected the Feathered Garden pantograph  which was very fitting and looked pretty on the plain bakcing.

Jukipa also brought this cheerful jelly roll quilt and chose the Feather Unfurled pantograph for a sweet finish

Mary brought this rich quilt made from a collection of blue William Morris Fabrics.  I struggles to get good pictures of this one, but the wildflower pantograph was lovely addition with a green thread so it didn't fully disappear.

Amanda brought this fun Grinch quilt.  She chose the Quirky pantograph which i think is a fun addtion.

Purple Log Cabin

Ann sewed many, many seams to create this pretty log cabin quilt.  She used her design wall to come up with the pattern that starts from the centre.

To keep with the pretty colors and floral print, Ann selected the Feathered Garden pantograph.  It really jumps off the solids on the front of the quilt.  We used a shiny lilac Magnifico thread.

Cream and Sugar

This pretty and delicate quilt was made by Audrey.  The pattern is the Cream and Sugar Block of the Month by It's Sew Emma.  Audrey used fabrics from her stash to pull this quilt together, and I think she did an amazing job.  I personally have next to no fabrics of this type in my stash, but I was really drawn to this quilt, and does it ever look good in my spare room where I often photograph quilts.

Check out the planning and the fussy cutting for the square in the centre of this star!

Audrey chose the Feathered Garden pantograph and the mix of florals and feathers adds just the right touch to finish this quilt beautifully.
