Pedal to the Metal

I have always loved batik fabrics.  I had originally used these fabrics when making the cover quilt for the Highway 10 Designs "Not Your Mother's Rail Fence" pattern.  See it here.  I had some good sized pieces remaining.   I had just the right amounts of these these fabrics to put together this Pedal to the Metal quilt - another Highway 10 Designs pattern.

This pattern utilizes strip piecing and there are no points to match so it really comes together quickly and is a relaxing sew.  I chose the Cinnamon Swirl pantograph which shows up wonderfully on the purple Cuddletex backing.

I didn't have enough of a single fabric to make the binding so I used two different fabrics in about 20" segments to finish this one off.

I donated this quilt to the Quilts for Wildfire Relief effort that is planning to gift a quilt to each of the 235 households that lost a home in the fire in Denare Beach Saskatchewan in 2025.

Pedal to the Metal - King Size!

This quilt was made by daughter Kyla as a gift for her Mother-in-law and Father-in-law.  Kyla knew she wanted to use one of our Highway 10 Designs patterns and after going fabric shopping decided to go the Pedal to the Metal.

This quilt is a generous King Size coming in at 110" x 110"   The fabrics are some Northcott favorites - a Stonehenge mixer and a Canvas to match.

Kyla selected the Tickle pantograph which adds some softness and movement.

Amd more Stonehenge one the back.

Pedal to the Metal uses the magic of strip piecing to make a very large quilt an enjoyable and manageable experience even with a toddler at home and returning to work full time!

Susan's Pedal to the Metal

Susan made this wonderful Pedal to the Metal quilt using a kit from Keystone Modern Creative.  The fabrics are from the Northcott's Simply Neutral line.  Pedal to the Metal is a pattern from Highway 10 Designs and utilizes strip piecing for a quilt that goes together quickly with no points to match!

Susan had seen how Kathy had quilted her version using this fabric collection and asked for the same finish.  I was happy to oblige as it looks fabulous!

The pantograph is called Time Warp and adds loads and loads of texture.

Boston Bruins Pedal to the Metal

Reneta made this spirited version of Highway 10 Designs Pedal to the Metal quilt  as a grad gift for a big Boston Bruins fan.  This pattern is the perfect quilt to highlight team or school colors for the super fan in your life!

Reneta chose the Plush pantograph and I use a light gold thread for the quilting.

Reneta made the twin size quilt (shown on a double bed), the pattern includes three different pattern variations and sizes for Twin, Double, Queen and King sized beds.

Floral Pedal to the Metal

This wonderful quilt was made by Janice.  It is one of the versions included in our Highway 10 Designs Pedal to the Metal pattern and I haven't had the opportunity to quilt one like this before.

I really love the floral fabric that Janice used in the border and body of the quilt.  I am not usually drawn to florals, but there is something special about this one.

Janice selected the Wildflower pantograph and it provides a nice even all over texture that completes the quilt.

Pedal to the Metal is available in paper or digital download in our Etsy store, or ask your local quilt store about bringing the pattern in for you.  Wholesale inquiries can be directed to highway10designs@mymts.net

Amy's Pedal to the Metal

Amy made this crisp version of Highway 10 Designs' Pedal to the Metal quilt.  It is the perfect "guy quilt" - crisp, clean, masculine and not too fussy.

To keep with the modern feel Amy selected the "Gatsby" panto and a charcoal grey Stonehenge wide backing.

If you need a quilt for a graduate, or a special guy in your life, check out Pedal to the Metal, is comes together in a snap and can be personalized with the colors of a favorite sports team or school. The pattern includes sizes to fit twin, double, queen or king beds.

Pedal to the Metal - Grad Quilt

This quilt was made by Reneta as a present for a special grad.  She used the Pedal to the Metal pattern by our own Highway 10 Designs.

I believe Reneta was just working with the intended recipients favorite colors, but this quilt gave me that "Go Team" feeling.  Using bold colors like this would be the perfect way to honour a favorite sports team or grad with their school colors.

For the quilting we decided on the bayside panto for its nice even texture.

Some news that is very exciting for me to share is that all of our Highway 10 Designs patterns are now available to Canadian and International quilt store through Checker Distributors.  You can share this information with your favorite local quilt store if you think others in your area might enjoy one of our patterns.
