Foxes and Bunnies in Bed

Reneta is a new grandma to twins and she had to make them each a special quilt.  The quilts are part of of a three in one pattern from Sew Fresh Quilts called "Bears, Foxes and Bunnies in Bed."  Reneta and I don't often get to shop together in person since we no longer live in the same area, but when she was visiting me, we went to see Jennifer at Needle Craft and Studio in Beausejour to pick fabric for these quilts.

Reneta immediately fell in love with the rainbow print and Jennifer helped Reneta pull complimentary fabrics for the bunnies.

I had fun doing a little custom quilting.  I outlined the features on the bunny faces and added a daisy meander to the background.

For the quilting on the blanket part, I followed the shapes of the rainbows freehand.

Could this be any cuter?

I tried to keep the quilting on the fox quilt similar but different.  I added a basic meander behind the fox faces.

The foxes needed a little more quilting that just the outlining so I added a couple of strategically placed curved lines.

I added quilting in the blanket part to every gold line of the print.  

Diamond Strings

Amy decided that it was time to tame her brown scrap bin and she came up with the sweet idea.  The pattern she used is a free Bonnie Hunter Tutorial called Diamond Strings.

The beautiful cream sections were calling out for some custom quilting, and we decided on a light custom quilting plan that involved no rulers, only freehand quilting.

I enjoyed the freedom of quilting this one with a variety of loops and curls, curves and feathers in the border.

I love the pattern that emerged on the backing.  Not quilting around all the blocks and between the borders gives nice relaxed quilting look.

Hockey Night In

Audrey made this super fun baby quilt for her nephew and his wife who are expecting a baby very soon.  Mom and Dad cheer for different teams and Audrey found the perfect way to include both the Montreal Canadiens and the Winnipeg Jets in a gift for the baby.

Audrey requested light custom quilting, so I stitched around all the players and added some simple fills in the different sections of the quilt as well as some swirls in the border.

The backing was also the perfect finishing touch.

This quilt was adapted from this out of print pattern.  It was downsized from the original twin size pattern.  Audrey's daughter received this pattern in a bag of quilting goodies at a guild swap so we don't really have a clear idea of the age of the pattern.

 

Amy's Scrappy Homerun

 

This is Amy's latest scrappy quilt.  When I asked the pattern name, she said that she made blocks based on a demo from her local quilt guild, and used a layout idea from the Alternate Routes pattern she just finished and came up with this.  I think she hit this one out of the park!

This quilt was just a scrappy stash buster, but it was calling out for something other than a panto.  I asked Amy if I could play, and she said to go for it.  I came up with a plan that didn't involve any rulers or thread changes to keep it budget friendly.

The grey linen background areas received some fun feathers, and the blue scrappy strips received my branching curl fill.

 

I am really pleased how this one turned out.  It really makes me want to make one of my own!

Heart Crazies and a Bonus quilt

Sherry is fully in stash busting mode.  This is one of her latest creations from a Buggy Barn pattern called Heart Crazies.  I like Sherry's interesting layout with the blocks extending into the border in some rows.

I have quilted a number of quilts for Sherry and I have a pretty good handle on her likes and dislikes.  It took a little longer to decide on the right quilting plan for this one.  I sent Sherry many pantograph options but nothing seemed right to either of us.  I wanted to offer a reasonably priced option as this wasn't a quilt that warranted fancy custom quilting.  Eventually we found the perfect plan.  I stitched around the hearts and added a simple stipple in the background (one of Sherry's favorites) and a larger stipple in the border.  Custom, but with a light hand to keep it more affordable.

When I was outside getting my photos of this quilt, I had a little visitor stop by to visit the pretty floral border!

Sherry decided that the fabrics she had pulled from her stash to make the heart quilt were not going back, so she created "Heart Leftovers."

Sherry selected the Gingersnap pantograph for a sweet finish.
