A Pair of Seahorse Quilts and a Newfoundland Theme

Reneta made this pair of Watercolor Seahorse quilts for her sister.  Last year I quilted Reneta's first Seahorse quilt (that you can see here), and Reneta's sister loved it so much that she asked Reneta to make a pair for her.  This time around they got a border to make them more bedsized, and by request, I repeated the custom quilting plan I used before.

Reneta made this quilt from a special fat quarter pack that she picked up in Newfoundland that highlights so many special Newfoundland themes - blueberries, boats, moose, puffins, sea glass and of course the Jellybean row type houses.

Reneta chose one of my newer pantos called Windswept and it couldn't have been a more perfect choice!

 

Blooming Nine Patch

Lisa made the stunning Blooming Nine Patch quilt made entirely of beautiful batik fabrics.  It looks beautiful, hanging flat, but I think the pattern really shines when placed on my queen sized bed.

Lisa chose the Fascination pantograph and I used a purple Magnifico thread on top paired with a lilac Bottom Line thread for the back.  I think the prints of textures of the batik fabrics really add to the blending magic of the finished project.  Great job Lisa!

 

Hour Glass Wreath

I had the pleasure of quilting this fun and fruity quilt for Crystal. The pattern is called Hour Glass Wreath by Missouri Star and the fabric line is The Berry Best by Wilmington prints. 

Crystal was making this quilt for her mother-in-law that she hadn't been able to see for 18 months. When she found out that they would be able to have a visit this summer, she worked hard and enlisted my help to get this quilt over the finish line before the much awaited visit.

  

Crystal selected the Pirouette pantograph, and this was the first opportunity I had to stitch it out.  I love it even more than I thought that I would!

Crystal's mother-in-law is also a quilter, and was totally surprised and overjoyed to receive this lovely quilt.  Her expression says it all!

 

Three for Margaret

Margaret sent this very unique Lake Views quilt.  The pattern is by Doug Leko of Antler Quilt Designs and features Holly Taylor's  Lake View fabric.  Margaret recently moved to the lake full time, so this quilt couldn't be more perfect.

Margaret selected the Ripples pantograph, and it finishes it off perfectly.

Next up is a lovely Log Cabin quilt.  How can you go wrong with a classic like this?

 

The breath of the gods pantograph was the choice to finish this one.

And last but not least is something completely different - a modern quilt pattern that Margaret found in a magazine.  The Oasis pantograph gave it a clean finish without being too dense or too busy. 

 

Four Lovely Quilts

In the spirit of catching up on sharing more of the lovely quilts that have been hiding on my camera roll I have four more for you today!  First up are two from Mitzie.  The first one, Mitzie referred to as her "Arizona quilt.'  After I sent some pantograph options, Mitzie decided that the Breath of the gods pantograph was just the look to complete her vision.

The next quilt was a result of a charm pack and some stash fabric and some creativity.  It was going to her granddaughter so the Fanciful Fliers pantograph was just the right fit.

Karen made this bright and cheerful quilt for her granddaughter. I quilted the stars pantograph in white a shiny white Magnifico thread.

And last but not least another granddaughter is receiving this quilt made by Pam.  The Dazzle pantograph was just the right finish for the bold black, grey and red combo.

 

 

I'm still here....

It has been over two months since there has been any activity here.  I have busy quilting for my clients and enjoying my summer filled with fishing and camping and my oldest daughter's wedding!  Sitting down to edit photos and post them never seemed to make it to the top of the priority list.  Now that September has arrived I decided that I better make an attempt to get caught up in sharing some of the wonderful quilts that have visited my studio in the last few months!  Starting the catch up phase with four beauties today...

First up is Glen's Woodland Daybreak quilt.  The colour palette is beachy and serene and just so soothing.  Glen and Angela decided on the the Fascination pantograph and it was just what this elegant quilt needed.

Next is this cozy quilt that Mary made for her adult son.  The rich colours and matching minkee backing are very inviting.  

Mary chose the London Fog pantograph, and asked if I could add in a little personalization as well.  I love an opportunity to add a little something extra to one of my client's quilts.  I added some handwriting in one of the sashing rows that reads " Made with extra love, Mum 2021"  Mary shared that her son always asked her if the cookies that she baked were "made with extra love?"  I loved the story and was happy to make the request a reality.

Gay sent over this lovely nautical wall-hanging for a simple all over finish with the Breath of the gods pantograph.  The hardest part was choosing a thread color that looked good both the navy and light sections.  I ended up with a caramel colour that was similar to the highlights in the fabrics. 

And last but not least was this lovely applique quilt from Lenore.  Lenore said this quilt was about 30 years in the making, so she was happy to finally have it ready to be quilted.  

Lenore requested custom quilting for her project.  The applique was a mix of needle turn and machine styles.  I sent Lenore some doodles of a variety of different background fills, and she loved the look of a simple stipple.  I did not not stitch in the ditch around the applique, I just went close to it with the  background fill.  This was a less time consuming and therefore  more cost effective option that still provided a lovely finish.  There is always more that one way to quilt a quilt, and sometimes less is the right decision.

Lenore's choice of the solid purple border fabric was the perfect place for a feather border that added a little something extra.   

The quilting shows up so well on the solid light backing fabric.  The dark purple thread in the border and the white bobbin thread behaved really well too!
