Reneta's Pixelated Heart Quilt

Reneta made this super cute baby quilt off some ideas she saw on Pinterest.  The picture that caught her eye first were from the blog post from Renewing Mrs. Sew & Sew.  The original idea came from Blue Elephant Stitches and you can see that version here.  Reneta used 3" squares and added her own borders ideas to make a rectangular rather than square quilt.

Reneta has originally asked for a flowery panto, but nothing I had seemed the right scale, so when I suggested Heart Strings, Reneta was on board.  I normally choose more matching thread, especially on the back, but I decided to do a medium pink front and back.  The Dream Puff batting makes for a lovely weight with flannel backing.

This is such a sweet quilt and aside from the back ground came right from the pink scrap bucket.  Inspired to make your own?

Polar Frost

Cathy made this cozy quilt from Northcott's Polar Frost collection.  It is flannel front and back and the crisp white and icy blues are just perfect.

Cathy selected the Fascination panto and had one request for me.  She was really hoping that the quilting wouldn't go through the eyes of the bears in the large panel.  (She had seen a finished quilt and the stitching lines through the eyes really didn't sit well with her.)

This is how I fulfilled her request.  When is was time to start the panto row , I dropped my needle in to the bear's eye.

Then I headed to the back of the machine and laid a piece of plastic over the panto and marked the spot where the laser light was shining.  I knew that for this one I just needed to stop short of the point and all would be well.

For the baby bear, I had to redraw the panto line ever so slightly as you can see below.

Such a fun quilt to cuddle up with winter!

Sunrise

Dawn made this super cheerful quilt and it certainly brightened my day when I was working on it.  The pattern is called Sunrise and it was a kit from V and Co. fabrics.

Dawn decided on the Fluffy Clouds panto (in like 10 seconds flat!) and requested Dream Puff batting and it made for a very nice result.

In all the photos I took I put the yellow to the top of the quilt - I guess that is how my eye saw it.  Interestingly, the pattern show this quilt with the yellow at the bottom.  To each his own I guess!

Reneta's Batik Sampler

I thought I'd start out showing you the back of this quilt as the cuddle backing really allows the quilting to come out!  This quilt was made by Reneta. It started out a number of years ago as a block of the month, but never had a reason to be finished until recently.

Reneta decided to complete this one and give it to her son's grad escort.  Reneta asked for custom quilting, and something personal to be added to the signature block.  I had a lot of fun playing in all the different blocks.

I used Quilter's Dream Puff batting, which is always my go to batting for a cuddle backing and two colors of So Fine Thread on top.  Reneta always tells me that she doesn't like feathers, but when I showed her this "feather" border she approved.  I have a number of clients who come to me saying they do not like feathers, for a lot of them they really do not care for the tight or symmetrical heirloom type feathers.  I may convert her yet!

Sunflowers and Sunbonnets

I have been finishing quilts, but I haven't shared much lately so I will try to make up for it by sharing two today.  First up is Bev's Mahjongg quilt.  Bev requested a light and open panto as this quilt is intended for the hammock in her solarium. (You know Bev has truly been bitten by the quilting bug when her hammock gets a dedicated quilt!)

I used the "Quirky" panto, Dream Puff batting and Bev also selected one of my wide Stonehenge backings.

I don't have a solarium, but I do have to say the quilt would be perfect for a little nap in the hammock!

Next I will share June's Sunbonnet Sue Calendar quilt.  June was very good at articulating her preference for light quilting.  She didn't want anything fussy so I did less dense quilting than I might have otherwise.

Each block represents a different month of the year, and the fabrics and trims were selected very carefully to match each theme. A labour of love indeed.
